Alright, so whenever my friend or I try to host a game, we get this error, any idea what's wrong?

It says failure to find game at X.X.X.X ip, blah blah may be behind a router or firewall, when neither of us are.

Are there any reasons as to why this should be happening? I hosted a game earlier and had some people join and it worked just fine, why is it only me and him?

I am having the same problem as presiously posted on by Siluden. Both my friend and I have v1.02 and I have tried everything I can think of to get a game going with him. We have both tried hosting, Both via the interner and Valkyrie net. I have tried setting exceptions in my firewall and I have tried disabling the firewall alltogether. I have also tried setting up my PC behind my router (remapping the appropriate ports) as well as connecting my DSL directly to my PC.

In all cases, on trying to Join, it gives the error that it can't find a game at the selected IP.

What seemed extra odd to me was that it gave the same error through Valykrie net (not that I fully understand how VN works, but why would supposed failure of the host's IP show up to the one trying to join?)

Please help, never played HoI2 with another human and would very much like to.

thanks

That message is only caused by firewalls or routers.

Have you got the internal windows firewall disabled? In my experience the XP firewall will block a lot of things you've told it to let through, so its best to make sure its turned off.

There are different ports for hosts, so you will need check which ports are required for hosting, I don't know whered you'd go to look as I don't use a router.

Lastly run an Adaware scan for any crap interfering with your computer. Also close all windows running in the background, chat programs, music players etc etc they can disrupt the game.

It's definitely firewall. I had the same problem a year ago and tried shutting off my comp's default firewall, but that didn't work. In the end I had to DMZ my entire computer to play paradox games online.

DMZing the network works but it is not necessary. I have played HoI 2 by opening the needed ports. Although now I did DMZ my network just because I'm lazy :)

My suggestion is to take a look at both HoI I and II multiplayer stickies to find you configuration of your router.
