Right now most of the fanactic ethics are interesting only for roleplaying reasons since 3 regular ethics usually are better.

So I would like to propose that fanactic ethics receive a update with a detailed chain of events which would give bonuses that really worth picking the fanactic version of it. For example, the most fanactic choices you take, the better bonuses you get.

A plus would be that this chain of events could interact with the origins and each origin would have a impact on the ethics chain of events.

Great. I'm waiting for details over this :D

I'm quite wary of posts like this since this sounds like railroading rather than respecting the sandbox. Though you're light on details. Are you proposing that every time someone plays fanatic X they get the same event chain to make choices with? If so how is that going to account for all the different types of empires that can have the same fanatic ethic?

I certainly think fanatic ethics could be more interesting but to my mind the best method for that is more unique and interesting civics that are locked to fanatic ethics. These are the building blocks that we can put together in different ways to make unique empires. Having the same quest chain sounds far less engaging since once it's done once you know the story and given the diversity in how fanatic ethics might be expressed in an empire it sounds highly likely to conflict with role play.

Another thing it could be a nice flavor would be disable fanactic ethics by the start of the game and these questlines allow you to become fanactic in one of them with higher bonuses.

Would be interesting if the chain line interacts with origins and stuff like that as well, but I know that's a lot of script.

Maybe the factions rework they are considering could address this. So instead of an event chain, your fanatic faction could have more intense demands, and more sever repercussions for ignoring those demands. Though like a previous post said, we wouldn't want this to railroad us into having to play a certain way everytime. So maybe a fanatic xenophobe faction would vary in its demands based on your other ethic. IE fanatic xenophobe + pacifisct would want pure lineage, phobe + militarist purge or enslavement of other species, or some show of the superiority of your species.

Sorry mate that doesn't really assaude my criticism but reinforces it. Locking out fanatic ethics just reduces our customisation options for our empires and having a set, repetitive quest line in order to unlock them would get stale and be really difficult to do without railroading every empire's roleplay. For example: right now I can play fanatic militarists that are pirate raiders, that are honourable warriors, that are crusaders, or even that are simply so alien their idea of a chill time is far more violent than the norm. How will a quest line be written that can accommodate just that diversity?

I think you've touched on a real problem that empires can feel a bit samey and fanatic ethics simply doubling down on stats isn't that interesting. But I don't think your proposal is the right way forward.
