Hi I bought this game on steam and every time I try to run it it gives me the error in the thread title ive renamed the avi directory to avi_back and it didn't seem to help I am playing on a windows 7 PC if that offers any help.

Sounds like you tried to run it in windowed mode without reducing your screen color depth from 32Bit/True Color to 16Bit High Color.
