I was able to run AoD perfectly well yesterday with no problems, then I went to start it again today, and got this error. It happens with or without the intro video (which plays fine), then as soon as it is about to go to loading, this error pops up. If I ignore it, it CTDs.

Any ideas? My system is in 32 bit color mode, but it is not running in windowed mode, so that should not be an issue.

Let me know any info I can give to help.

System:
Windows XP Home with SP3
AMD Athlon Dual Core 5000+ Black Edition@3.2 GHz
4 GB Ram
NVidia GeForce 8800GTS @ 850 MHz

edit: as an update, I'm trying to download a new driver from NVidia, I will see if that works.

That error is caused by BINK video player. Are you trying to run another game (or any program) that uses that same video player at the same time?

It couldn't be that because the intro went just fine and played entirely. Also, the same error came up even if I checked the no intro box, or changed the .cfg file to have no intro.

I did not have any other program open that uses the Bink video player. I was able to get back into the game after downloading a new driver from Nvidia, but my feeling is that this was a Windows error, since installing those drivers included a Restart. Windows also seems to recently not like getting a Shutdown order, and simply ignoring it sometimes, and even ignoring a control-alt-delete attempt to bring up the Task Manager. Oh well, as it is probably a Windows error, I won't bother the AoD forum with it any longer. No sense cluttering up a good game's bug forum.

BTW, I love this game.

Rename the avi directory to avi_old and try it again. The Binkplay would not work on my very high end machine.
