This is the story of how in the midst of global turmoil and the horrors of the competetion between three outdated modes of thought, Brazil brought upon the world the now-dominant form of government on Earth:

Quasi-Democracy!!!

:D

December 30,1936

The un-shaven and rather rotund man stood, brimming with energy adressing the crowd of thousands in Rio de Jenaro.

"Communsim is a fool's errand, Marx, despite his good intentions, was an idiot!"

(crowd roars)

"Facism will destory the world! With it, artistic creativity and invention will be stifled and we will be thrown into a global dark ages!!"

(crowd roars)

"Finally, free-wheeling democracy will bring anarchy to the world! Look at what the lack of vision and guidance has done to the great democracies already!! People are living in the streets while others sit in the White House, or #10 Downing Street, or other luxurios mansions around the world deciding the fate of those on the street, up to 49% of whom didn't consent to that pompous ruler , even voting against them! Democracy leads to eternal discontent and eventual anarchy!!!"

(crowd roars)

"Only one kind of government can bring true happiness to the world!! Quasi-Democracy!!!...."

(interrupted by roaring crowd)

"Silence!!!"

(dead silence)

"As I was saying, with Quasi-Democrasy we will have the legitimacy provided by the consent of the people with the lack of dissent provided by Facism! You see, we take the best of both sides!!!"

A man in the crowd hollers out (yes I'm from Arkansas, get over it) "What about socialism?"

"I already said, Communism will..."

"No not Communism, democratic, or in this case quasi-democratic socialism?? If I choose not to work, the government should have to pay my bills, and for my food, and by recliner, etc!! It's you moral obligation !!!"

"You lazy socialist BUM!! Why should ordinary, hard-working people have to foot the bill for you to sit on your lazy ass! 'moral obligation' my ass!! The government should help people who can't help themselves or who are simply temporarily out of a job. A safety net, not a matress!!"

(crowd roars, and promptly lynches the socialist bum)

"Let the Quasi-Democratic Revolution Begin!!!"

That afternoon, throngs of Quasi-Democrats took control of population centers throughout the nation. Most of the military, sensing that the government would fall, joined the revolution.

Remnants of the government fled into the jungle, along with the few remaining loyal military units, all to be crushed within 48 hours.

What do you think?? Should I continue??

If i do continue, besides the story I will provide/reveal/etc. the following:

*The name of the man speaking to the crowd, and his cabinet

*A more detailed explenation of "Quasi-Democracy", along with a list of present-day nations I consider "Quasi-Democratic" for comparison.

*The actual AAR from my Brazil game, possibly with screenshots if I can manage it

*Also, if I can manage it, several flags including the FQDR Brazil and the global QD movement (no promises, but i'll try)

The

Viva la Quasi-Democracy!!

I think that you should continue.
This is an interesting start.

great, either tommorow afternoon or maybe tonight if i can manage it i'll update.

btw, is anyone willing to post pics for me if i email them to you? i can't figure it out. PM me if you don't mind. It will be greatly appreciated ;)

thanx in advance to anyone.

-Churchill

(btw if you haven't figured it out yet im not very pro-socialist, please don't make this a huge argument. i'll keep the political stuff to just a few good-humored jokes if you will not make an argument out of what i say politiclly [sp?]. thanx in advance)

Nations that I would consider "Quasi-Democratic" in todays world:

NOTE: This is a list based on much broader criteria than what I will list later as the QD platform

Mexico (due to the corruption and de facto rigged elections, with new party however, not sure which way headed)
Russia (borderline, heading more towards QD under Putin)
Columbia (in deep due to corruption and violence threats in politics, heading away from QD though w/ current reforms)
China (communist only in name, in effect capitalism with rigged elections and a secret police)
Syria ( because they have a farce of an election, and allows the opposition to hang around until after they lose)
Egypt (because of corruption and the fact that the ruling party will use under-the-table violence)
Indonesia (because of the prevalance of under-the-table violence and unfairness of elections)
Venezuala (due to prez's unwillingness to submit and resign, however lack of quashing of opposition makes it a borderline)

any suggestions are welcome, i'll have an aar update tommorow

p.s. don't start arguing over what countries belong on the list. unless i made a factual mistake, keep it light

Viva la Quasi-Democracy!!

You are walking on the edge... I really hope that this thread will stay out of political arguing/bashing.

Yup, I would get a proper story update up before some debate errupts....

Bah. IMHO Those are his views and at least for the stories sake no big deal. But the question is are those countries on that list in 1936 or present day? To me it seems he lists them as they are now, which would make calling them CD in 1936 a whole nother concept.

Anywho, don't worry about politics, write your AAR and anyone arguing with you politically can take their posts elsewhere. Bsically unless a Mod says something to you don't worry about anyboy else. :D

Is Singapore Quasi-Democratic? I have nothing but respect for SM Lee's achievements there, but when you have to change the constitution to ensure there's at least one opposition member, it's difficult to call it truly democratic.

Looks good. :)

the list is present day.

i'm unaware of the singapore situation, i didn't intend for the list to include every QD nation in the world today, just a few benchmarks.

also, brazil was chosen because it is IMO the most powerful nuetral nation (out of reach of european hostilities) at the time. also it is surrounded by small nations that can be easily and quickly conquered to provide a good base to reach out to the reast of the world. i have no particular like/dislike for any latin american nation!! ;)

Here is the platform of the Quasi-Democratic Party:

Political Speech: You have the right to disagree with the government on minor things, as long as you don't gather enough momentum to possibly act on those opions.

Elections: Anyone can run for office, but the election is a farce. But it has to be a good farce, like Mexico before Fox, not like Saddam's 'elections'. but in the end, QDP always wins

Religion: As long as it doesn't stir up any trouble, it's okay

Welfare: The government can provide a safety net, but it doesn't have too.

Military: Strong. Strong. STRONG STRONG STRONG STRONG!!!! But it is sometimes used just as often as a police force and political tool to advance QD at home and around the world. In the case of Brazil, teching up with inf, mech and marines are priority along with building a large navy centered around amphibious invasions.

Legislature: In theory elected, in practice appointed by Head of Gov't through farce elections.

March 1, 1936

A light knock on the door aroused the new President from his slumber. A quick glance at his watch revealed that it was 2:00 AM.

"This had better be good!!" yelled the now-grumpy ruler.

The door slowly opened

"Mr. Bob?"

"What is it, Claire?"

"It's time"

THE INVASION OF ARGENTINA

The Chief of the Army began the last minut briefing "Mr. Bob, Operation Dinner Plate is ready"

"Has Montevido been cooperative?"

"Our units are already along the Uraguay-Argentina border"

"Good, and the Argentinan military?"

"They have not moved, we will have complete surprise. The only standing military units in the nation are outside Buenos Aieres. Right were the plans have them."

"Perfect. Operation Dinner Plate approved"

QD AP-
This morning units of the Brazilian Army invaded Argentina in response to an Argerntian mortar attack on an unarmed border village. Due to their abhorence at the massacre, the Uraguian (sp?) government allowed passage of our units through the northern part of the country. In a large encirclement move divisions of the Army linked up southwest of Buenos Aires with Marines who landed south of the Argentinian capitol at dawn. Remnants of the Argentinian military and the government have holed up in Buenos Aires. Our sources in the military have confirmed that that the Argentinian government has refused to surreneder and an offensive to take Buenos Aires is immenent.

In the next update, the conlusion of Operation Dinner Plate and the next offensive: Operation Pepper Mountain and Operation Interior Squash

i will e-mail a map(s) of offensives to anyone willing to post them for me, i can't figure it out.

my goals are to counquer the following by the time euro war breaks out:

All of south america w/o euopean held areas
All of the non euro/us hled carribean.

Also, if possible i'd like to take some of central america. mexico would be nice, but it's unlikely.

once euro war breaks out i'll try to grab territory in europe, joing allies until war ends. post-war i'll take rest of western hemisphere and begin pushing to take the rest of western europe. after that, comintern. finally asia and the pacific. africa will be tossed in there somewhere, too. of course, i by no means expect that i...err Big Bob, can do all this, but that's the goal.

please feel free to ask questions about th QD platform, i know i didn't really cover much in my post. i'll gladly awnser any questions ;) :p

Viv la Quasi Democracy!!!

Ad Nauseum!!!!
