Playing as Republican Spain, I allied with SU. We took over Finland in '39 and I made them my puppet. In '41, they were allied with me and still my puppet and our relations were +200.

As soon as Germany DOWed SU,Finland was no longer my puppet or ally, it was now at war with me.
 
Sounds like an event.
However it is either a gampleplay question, or a bug.
In either case it has nothing to do with tech support.
