Will Finland, or Suomi, be a formable kingdom? Say it needs Estonia, Finland proper, Tavastland, Karelia, Ingria and Lappland? Don't remember if it was in CK 1.

It is in CK1

Perhaps. It should not be considered a part required to form Sweden, so it should either be it's own kingdom or just not a part of a kingdom (if that's possible).

It was possible in CK1. I remember the pecheneg territories (future Wallachia, Moldova) and AFAIK Bretagne were duchies which were not tied to any king title, to avoid vassalization offers.

edit:
Finland, if united and converted to catholicism would be a win for the pope. In a fantasy scenario, a king title should be possible. (like pagan hungary converted, and got the crown)

Finland was tricky in CK1 because it was part of a 20-province region that had no historical King-title. For game-play reasons a kingdomless area that big was not desireable. But the name was tricky because while Finland and arguably Finnish areas were most of the region other clearly non-Finnish areas (like Latvia) were in the same blob.

Some versions got around this by making Finland part of Sweden, and the rest part of Russia. That was not a great solution because a) Russia was already too damn big and b) Finland was not a constituent part of Sweden until after the Northern Crusades. Others just called the entire Baltic blob Finland.

Finland exists as a de jure Kingdom in CK2. :)

Thanks for that. One more reason to buy this game when it comes out.

I also wanted to add to Nick B II post. That Finland had kingdom/s but as history before Swedish conquest are quite hard to find its not known was there one kingdom or several. There are some historical references to kingdom of Finland found in some historical documents and places. They aren't just taken too seriously as there is no "reliable source".
