9th of April Battle of Oslo ends Danish forces are victorious 965 danes laid down their life for the Fatherland.
11th of April (Today) Norway surrenders Denmark is victorious the danish flag flies over Oslo God save the king!
For 4 minutes the king was just sitting there looking at that sentence: Norway surrenders Denmark is victorious, Could it really be true after all this time? Norway was finally again under danish rule?
it had taken so much longer than they had imagened Erik With had said 2 months at most and it had taken 7! Good thing that the fool had been fired and replaced by the more realistic Ebbe Gørtz.
There had been times when the King didnt think that this Moment would come, in the start he had heard of great victorious won by the Danish army advancing on Oslo seemingly not able to be defeated!, But then it had all slowed down and he started to hear of the great losses thousands of soldiers on both sides had been killed but finally it was over, they could finally turn to more peacefull ways of expanding Denmarks power with more and more nations joining the Axis alliance and Germany's power seemingly unstoppable. Surely there would be a place for Denmark in this new world.
29th of April 1939
Copenhagen outside the city hall.
Military Parade
Corporal Jens Hansen was marching alongside his friend and brother in arms Frederik Kristensen, as part of the Lifeguard they were the cream of the cream in this parade that was being held in the honour of the danish troops who had just come home from the war in Norway. He had taken part in the battle of Oslo and the two battles of Drammen the 1st one where 1st Lieutenant Strandberg had met an untimely end at the hands of a Norwegian machine gun he had always liked to be first in the charge, and the 2nd one where Hansen had gotten shot in the arm, luckily it had been a a clean wound and nothing of importance had been damaged after which he had been promoted to Corporal.
The flags were flying from all rooftops all of Copenhagen was full of red and white and people were singing the national anthem and other military songs such as: Dengang jeg drog afsted,
Hansen was happy he had survived the war and would probably get a good bit of leave from the Army after this parade he knew the king would hold a speech about the bravery of the danish troops and Denmarks new position in the world. But for the next few hours he had to be happy with marching up and down the streets of Copenhagen looking good in his field uniform while all the danish people admired him and his brothers in arms bravery. As he was thinking of all this he heard the order HALT! Right face! the king will now speak to his soldiers and his people!.
And there he was King Kristian X standing on the balcony above the people of Denmark next to him was his ministers and his wife Queen Alexandrine.
Brave soldiers of Denmark! he said in a majestic voice looking out on all the people before him
It is a great honour to be here today! to congratulate our armed forces with this glorius victory we have achieved in Norway!
As i look before me i see the young brave men of a great nation!
But as the speech came close to an end the king started talking of international politics
From what Hansen could see there were tears in the kings eyes,
as the king kept on talking of the bravery of the danish armed forces and how Denmarks place in the world had now been assured
Hansen had a feeling of completeness, this had been why he had joined the army, to see this old man proud to protect him,
And make sure his nation was great and glorious! the king truly cared for his nation it was open for all to see more than those old men in the Parliament who were just arguing all day!
But as the speech was drawing to a close the king started to talk of Germany.
Our good allies in the south! who have so kindly granted us industrial aid in the last war must not be forgotten! we must not forget the part they have paid in this war!
without them we would not have been able to produce half as many goods or weapons for our brave soldiers!
and for this we thank them!
And if our allies to the south calls for our help we shall aid them! the old powers of Great Britain and France were unjust to Germany after the Great war!
only caring for their own empires and their own protection! they selfishly stripped them of a great part of their land! taking their colonies! and dividing them betwen themself!
And now Germany are trying to right wrongs! by demanding territory rightfully theirs! and if Germany calls for Denmarks aid in acquiring those territories we shall answer them with a yes!
The king looked nearly fanatic at this point it was clear that he meant every word he said and it seemed the people liked what they heard for they cheered him in agreement.
the cheers werent as high from some of the soldiers though as it was clear that this meant if a new war broke out they would be called upon again to defend Denmark and their new German ally.
Does this mean we are going to war again? Frederik said looking at Hansen Im afraid that most likely we are within a not so distant future he replied.
Danish motorized veterans.
