First i like to give my never ending thanks to Frymonmon,, storm, blackbishop and many other GMs here in the forum. Their tireless work on their games gave me ideas, and ways to establish a forum game involving nations.Now that is out the way. What is Shattered earth? Shattered earth shall be a game which will mix a heavy dose of sci-fi, crazy science, nation states, and eldritch horror. Its a new format i am experimenting with and i can promise it will be a lot of fun.
In the world of shattered earth we are currently in the year 2500 AC, one hundred years after the death of the one and only emperor of humanity. The great floods of the 2075, 2410 and 2450 have come and took away the great pride of men. The Empire for all its technology and advance could not survive without its immortal emperor. The great moon colonies, the mining operations of the asteroid belt, the golden fleet, pride of humanity all have been lost to the void and now humans struggle on earth to survive.
The civil war ended near forty years ago yet the scars still remain, and the great population of earth is now just a shadow of what once was. Between all the chaos and death new states have risen to try to impose order and become something for history to remember. However much of the world still remains, in disorganized chaos, in small kingdoms, under greedy tribes and bloodthirsty conquerors.
Worst of all cults have been in the rising since the death of the emperor, worshiping evil creatures and becoming more daunting, carrying their strange acts and rituals with the blood of their fellow men. Many attribute to them the un-ending sights of strange creatures, monsters out of horror tales and inexplicable events that are being reported across the world, which become worse and worse every month. Yet any sensible man or woman will know it's just superstition from the fall and that all can be done and explain by science...right?
With resources almost gone from earth and war looming in the horizon between the nations, all it's not lost. Mars and Europa are finally ready for colonization, and the people look at it as a way to get out of the fracturing world, it shall be up to their leaders to decided their future however.
How to join?
first decide what you want to be!. Do you want to be a nation struggling in this earth? a private character surviving on earth or a cultist leading a terrible cabal and worshiping evil gods from the beyond? whatever you choose i can assure you you will have great fun as earth surely becomes more hellish than the season before.

General rules
I. Every turn, you the player will submit 3 orders to me the GM, and 2 orders if a single character player or cultist. I will then proceed and write the main updates and Minis.
II. Every turn shall cover the span of six months. Covering from january to june and june to august. In the world of shattered earth weather have been changed and basically its divided as Summer with short spring and Winter with a short fall.
III. Every season events that have nothing to do with player orders shall happen across the world, the number of them varies: they can encompass basically anything from an invasion of neighboring tribes, to supernatural occurrence of different degrees of danger. Shattered earth will be a very deathly game so things will categorized by dangers from simply weird murdered to big destruction.
IV. You can correct me if you think something is wrong on your stats, etc. I will check and verify if the complaint is valid or not. But results of your orders are determined by rolls, bonuses, etc. so do not complain because it will not change much even if the complaint is accepted.
VI. Some things are simply only for GM eyes and will be not share with the players, please understand that is for the good of the game.
VII.Your Orders must include in the title the name of your nation and the turn. DO SO or i will ignore them.
General Orders rules
-Every Nation gets to send 3 orders every turn, they can encompass anything. You can use them to expand your military, move armies for a secret attack, expand mining and so on. orders can be done nation wise or with the objective or a part of your nation . Treaties with PC and NPC alike, or the invasion of an NPC or PC territory.During a war you will gain 2 more orders that relate only to the war effort and cannot be spent domestically. To obtain the two war orders you must declare war 36 hrs before deadline.
-In order for me to remain sane and produce quality updates, every order should be no longer than 3-4 lines and cover no more than one action. If you hand in an order that is two paragraphs long I will likely disregard it. (Picture links do not count toward this unless you spam me with them)
-Every character and cult have two orders to do what they desire to do that season.
Military Related Orders Rules
As you may suspect you cannot just order attack x place without some sort of structure and guidance for me to write about. As such all orders related to military activities (war or not) need to follow the following guidelines:
1) You only obtain the two extra war orders when at war with an pc or npc nation which is on the map.
2)War must be declared 36 hrs before deadline to obtain the war orders or you will have to be content using your normal orders for a surprise attack.
3)When attacking set an objective to reach if all goes well and do detail your attack.
4)You cannot just say attack with my army. You must specify the amount of unit involved in the war plan for the order. If you fail to do this i shall determine randomly the amount sent...you will not like it. Write at least a 2-4 lines of description of your plan.
Example: Attack Vienna with the Army of the north: It shall be composed of 3 Infantry units, 1 vehicle and 1 aerial unit support. Descriptions of the plan.
5)There is no “Transport ship” unit in the stats as it can be understood you can build quick disposable ships for it, and such no need for an unit. When crossing small bodies of water like english channel it's easy to transport a lot to the other side in quick time. The bigger the distance is the more it can take and the harder.
6)Units Reach. Recognize turns are six month and as such plan for that. You can cover some good ground in sixth months of campaign if all goes swell...but when does ever anything goes well? you are likely to find resistance, towns that don't surrender and combat and as such you may not be able to reach your objective as far as you though. Its normal. Each movement is done by me in case to case so if someone moved farther than you, it doesn't matter and is not “unfair or cheating” just luckier than you or simply a different situation.
How does the game works
-Every nation will have five main resources: gold (aka money), Food, Energy, Elerium and neo-metals. Your existence itself will cost those resources as well the orders and things you carry on shall cost resources, manage them carefully as they are not many left on earth.
-Money is used to pay for everything you do, food to feed your population, energy to keep your nation working, elerium to make energy and keep your vehicles, and army with power, and neo metals to build anything.
-For cultist your main currency is sacrifices and membership to be able to do rituals and carry out your nefarious plans.
The Military
Land forces
I. Infantry divisions: the infantry divisions are five thousand men. Armed mainly with energy swords and weaponry and some firearms as long range support. the infantry division comes with trucks to carry main supplies and transport some of them.
II. vehicle division: the vehicles division is home to fast attack vehicles, be it armored cars, support vehicles, infantry fighting vehicles and so on. A Vehicle division will hold some fifty vehicles on it.
III. Mechanized Unit: Composed of the valuable and powerful robotic units, by that i mean mechas, which had become the tanks of this world as well the artillery. They are slow and extremely vulnerable to close combat but their posses great firepower and long range capabilities do not use alone. The division will likely be composed of 10 units. The mechs division are expensive to produce and very valuable.
Naval Forces
I.Lightships: Light ships are lightly armed naval crafts for war, usually armed with machine guns and low caliber weaponry. Used by the nations as cheap ways to fight wars and control the seas, they include fast attack boats, corvettes, frigates and cruiser size ships.
II. Heavy ships: heavy ships contain higher weight ships, like battle cruiser, battleships and so on, Possessing heavy ordinance as bombardment cannons, rail weapons, missiles of short range. The are very expensive and usually head of a fleet. A heavy ships can carry 1 air squadron.
Air Forces
Nations possess the highly valuable and low in number air squadrons. Each squadron is composed of five aerial units. the type doesn't matter, though mainly fighter/bombers of some sort of attack helicopter. They are expensive to produce but can deliver bombing runs. be careful though Anti-aerial weaponry do exist and it's deployed in some measure by nations.
Space Forces
-there is no such thing as a specialized fighter carrying ship and as such light ships carrying one fighter squadron. A battle-cruiser carries three fighter squadron and a battleship carries seven fighter squadron.
Once people begin going to space, it's likely it will be militarized fast:
I.Light ships: lightly armed ships to fight in the vacuum of space. Mainly with laser cannons and low level missiles, with low resistance hull. they are fast however.
II. Battle-cruisers: mid size ships with more hull resistance and lower speed. Armed with more weaponry and of bigger size.
III.Battleships: Bigger ships and espousing much more weaponry and size. Slower than the other two. Rail weaponry, plasma cannons and many other weapons on it.
The Great Temples
The great temples are the main temple of adoration of one of the great gods of the imperial religion. The temples have been sealed up by their priest as soon as the emperor ascended to the paradise of the gods and been guarded by a loyal Knight order.Meanwhile many knight orders still remain in someway or another roaming around the world or in castle and states dispersed, the Knights orders defending the sealed temples are formidable in the arts of war and fighting and still own to.notch equipment and tactics. Recruiting from local population to keep their numbers they are a force on their own to defend the temples to the death.
The temples itself are build from a rare material rarely used except in the construction of the temples themselves. they are very resistant to damage by weapons and the time which is why, they have remained safe during the turbulent times. That is not to say impossible to force entrance to them
It is believed and rumored great treasures are inside the temples, relics of the past and forgotten technologies, though no one knows for sure. The temples themselves are humongous and able to hold close to one hundred thousand people inside. What is inside is likely related to the god they are dedicated to.
The Black Spots
The black spots are a recent phenomena as many would tell you, though stories from tribal people says they some have existed for a very long time, this is unconfirmed up to this day. They however resemble like a huge completely dark dome covering huge amounts of land and water in the world. They suddenly appears few years ago and expanded at a rapid pace consuming many towns and villages.Nation have tested and no type of energy can go in the black spots, likely being absorbed somehow. However people have come out of it when trapped during a sudden growth and tell tales of complete darkness except some flashlight or something they carry so its possible to go in. No one that wasn't trapped in less than a few meters have reported coming out, but impossible to verify this as no real watch upon them have been done. What is inside is anyone's guess.
Space
Returning to space is the greatest dream of mankind and now with the finishing of the mars terraforming some ten years ago the most developed nations are all abuzz on how to get there for the enormous resources depots.
Its not on mars however, the asteroid mining still remain a great way to extract resources the cheapest way possible and the whole solar system is up there for the grapes, including the moon called Europe which should have finished its terraforming some twenty years ago, awaiting for mankind to come and reclaim it.
So HOW are you going to do this? well of course starting your own space program!
the first steps to a space program will be the same for everyone, creating a space program with a launch pad and the rockets/ships to get man to the space ones more!.
Once you achieve this you can move to the next phases depending what you wish to accomplish with your program. you can begin establishing space stations, launching satellites (gotta obviously design them etc). An important step it's to make a space elevator, meanwhile costly they are very useful. You could too decide you don't want that and prefer your ships to come and go from earth directly, meanwhile cheaper in the short run may become problematic later on. Build a spaceport and so on.
Once you have launch capabilities, and presence in space (i do recommend the building of an space elevator) you can begin designing your colonization program, go to the moon, the asteroid bells, designing the engines and so on. to the end objective to colonize, design ships for war and bring resources home.
