Hi,

I am new to EU. Right now I am playing the GC as France, and I have vassalized Bavaria for over 25 years now, my relationship with them is +200, but still the annex option is greyed out. We are both not at war, have the same religion (Catholic) and are allied. I managed to annex Savoie, which worked just as it should, but I can't ask Bavaria. Does anybody know why?

TIA

Robert

I'd guess he doesn't :D

Requirements to be allowed to attempt annexation:

Relation +190
Same religion
Vassals for more than 10 years
Common border

Factors increasing likelihood of successful annexation attempt:
Large army near (or in!) vassal provinces
Vassals for considerably more than 10 years
Recently-concluded war (vassal therefore low on troops)
Good monarch diplomacy skill

Re: common border

Ah hah! Now I know why I couldn't annex Hannover as England last night! I didn't see in the rules where it said a common border was required though.

But after I got a Dynastic Inheitance of the Hansa League, the annex option for Hannover came up, and they accepted first time.

Of course, now I'm putting down revolts in BOTH of the former nations, plus my recently acquired Italian lands due to my war with the Pope. But that's what I get for placing Protestant forces in the heart of Italy. :D

It is in there somewhere ... surprised you didn't find it, since the manual is so easy to look things up in :D

This is why your logical first choices for vassalisation are Navarre, Savoy and Lorraine. Of course, you'll have competition for at least one of these (the Spanish are fond of Lorraine)

Everybody seems to want to own Lorraine. Must be something in the water ...

Isn't the North Sea considered a common border?

"Common border" means ability to walk directly from one province to another. The game allows this in some cases - for instance, Sicily into Naples - but by and large, and definitely in the case of England, intervening seas mean no common border.
