Freeze pending game loading

Hi,

I bought CK this morning, and after installation (with patch 1.04a), the game freeze pending the loading procedure (audio initialization). The only solution is to crash the game using the Windows Task manager.
I follow all instructions in the other posts of this forum, but game loading failed again.

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
4) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

The thing is your Dxdiag says you have not.
You are running 32bit color and your video card driver is out of date.

I ran game in 16bit color and nothing happened.
And for the video card driver, I found it directly on the ati web site. Just for information, where do you see that I haven't an up-to-date driver ?

Well the idea was not to try things one at a time in isolation rather all together continously, As for your driver, it is only logical that in this climate a driver from more than 4 months ago is out of date.

In fact I just checked for you, and for your card the latest driver is April 7th.

About three days ago.

Also you do not have the latest windows drivers installed either.

However if you whant to try an end run around everything, try reducing your sound card acceleration to the lowest setting, then if it works try bumping it up a notch at a time until it does not.

You can also try renaming the music folder to Music_bak.

If it's freezing at audio init, then it may be you have an old audio driver, that would be the first thing I would check. Even if you have the same version as the newest one listed, I'd reinstall it anyway as it's possible that a file is corrupted/missing.

You also havent updated Windows if you still have SP1 (unless SP2 has not been released over there, but I thought it had gone worldwide). It probably wont solve the problem, but when it comes to microsoft, you never know.

If you read the thread you would see he has the latest driver for audio.
You would also see I have mentioned the windows drivers.

Many people do not wish to install SP2 since they feel it creates more problems than it solves.

The tech support forum is not like other forums, please do not post in here unless you genuinely have something new to add. Spaming is harshly punished in here.

First of all, thanks for your help.

I do not have a sound card. It's simply the mothercard sound chipset.
I'll try to find the latest drivers for it.
Nevertheless, it seems that when I rename/delete de music directory, the CK runs fine.
So, nerver mind for the music.

Try adjusting the acceleration as I mentioned, that way you might be able to have the music back on.
