Alright, playing as UK, my friend declared a colonial war on Japan while they were uncivilized. A few years later, after taking all of Japan's terrority, he sued them for peace, and couldn't do anything. Apparently, somewhere along the line, Japan became and Independent Nation. The only option is a white peace.

Anyone encounter anything like this?

Well depending upon the year and events that fuired could have had the meiji restoration take effect. If so then that would explain the civilization of Japan during the war. If you can not find anything in the game log about it then no idea, and if they do become civilized during it it would mean thatyou can not get any terratory from them with the way colonial wars are done, no state provinces can be offered or asked for during them from what i remember.

That's right, can't get ask for any provinces or select any of the boxes.

Similar thing happened to me. I declared a colonial war on Japan, and the next day the Meiji Emperor got antsy.

I realised what was happening about a month later when my troops were refusing to disembark. :eek:o Silly, I think, but not a big deal.
