Ok, I know this might have been mentioned before but I just have to give in to my frustration! This bug seems to develop over time since it has occured after several uninstallations/reinstallations (including formatting harddrive). Here's the deal: Everytime I startup the game it will crash to windows if I try to bypass the movie-sequences by pressing the left mousebutton (once) or the esc-button (twice). If I whatch both sequences I'll manage to get into the game, but I don't really feel like whatching them for the 100th time.

To me it seems like EU makes some kind of changes to your system, becuase everytime I've installed the game the system seems to become more and more unstable. That's exactly the deal with the bug mentioned above; it all works fine for awhile and for no apparent reason whatsoever this bug starts to appear after the game's been installed for 2 days or so. Also, everytime EU crashes my computer (not seldom) and I have to restart it, windows displays the "updating config files"-message upon loading.

Ok I know i might appear like a whiner, but never have I bought such a bug infested product and I believe that Paradox owes the people that bought the game a decent patch before going on to make EU2. Or maybe this is some kind of sales tactic to make us all buy EU2?

I've never had the first problem where trying to bypass the intros causes the pc to crash. But I have observed the "updating config files" message on rebooting. This occurs on the next computer startup after playing EU whether the game crashed or exited gracefully. This bothered me greatly at first, but I've gotten used to it I guess. I'm supposing at this point that it is resetting the system display resolution (or something like it) when this is happening??? I really don't know, but it doesn't appear to be affecting anything else. I hope the next patch fixes this. I'm used to seeing this happen after installing new hardware or system level software, NOT after playing a game... So, yeah, it does bother me & I hope they correct it.

Just out of curiosity, are u running ME also?

Good Luck,

John J

Well, I hope the "updating config files"-msg is as harmless as you believe. However I'm not running ME, but I might as well state my system specs while I'm on it:

850Mhz Athlon
Winfast TNT2 Ultra (with the best drivers available)
352 Mb RAM
Onboard audio (VIA) (which suck btw)
Win 98
Directx 8

It does seem pretty weird that it would work ok for a couple of days & then quit working. I imagine your frustration level is pretty high. Have you tried emailing Paradox tech support yet? That may speed up the process. I would recommend doing that if you haven't already.

& I agree, the onboard soundcard is pretty sucky. I'd get away from that if I were you. It may be partially responsible for your troubles. Donno anything about the WinFast video card, but the TNT chipset isn't a bad one. I assume you've got the latest & greatest video & sound drivers. Since you reformatted the harddrive ya had to reinstall windows, have you made sure that all of bill's latest & greatest updates/service packs have been installed also? And since the problem is happening on a mouse-click, how about the mouse driver?

Try emailing support. They will respond (they did for me at least, & they were very helpful, they got me to the point that I can play the game) and should have some good ideas on things to check on.

Good luck,

John J
