...Well, you may say he's getting the Maya Empire crown.

Not only: he became emperor of the HRE in a recent game I was playing.

EU2 1.07 with EEP 1.4.1, I was playing England.

Spain had (as usual) hard times with the American Native States.

At some point (around 1600) Maya converted to Catholicism, and some 50 years later I got the astonishing message of a new Maya EMperor for the HRE.

Anybody has a guess about what happened?
Cheers :)

Best liked (in the HRE) Catholic monarch, adjusted for a Habsburg bonus.

It makes kinda sense too, since the HRE has (before the Habsburgs became too powerful) a history of choosing "weak" candidates so that the Emperor couldn't meddle too much in the Princes affairs... ;)

Thanks Havard,

but let me understand: a Catholic monarch doesn't need any kind of "interest" in the HRE to become the emperor?

I understand French, Danish or Polish kings tried to become emperor at a time, but - gosh - a Maya emperor really looks a bit odd!

Is there any way to have a "reasonability check"?

Something like own at least one german culture european provinces or have a boundary with the HRE.

The way it works today also explains to me why ofter I see Fernando Y Isabela becoming emperor, something that certainly doesn't fit with the rationale of chosing a "weak" candidate.

Historically there were no such check... There are examples from before the game begins of Spanish and English princes being elected King of the Romans, and neither had any HRE land.

That one went out of the window when the Habsburgs became strong enough to dictate the elections (i.e. make the title "hereditary")... :)

In EU3, there should be special "HRE Election" events, involving bribery and such. Just some random thought in a perhaps irrelevant thread.:D

Does somebody know who the Kurfürsten (electors?) are? I just can't remeber my history lessons anymore. :eek:o
