Hello, everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out why the text on my HOI appears less than clear (especially compared to the text on my desktop icons). This problem gets worse, of course, when I zoom out the map one level - it is very difficult to read the province names even though my eyesight is ordinarily okay. I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop with an ATI Mobility 7500 graphics card, and I am running the latest set of Catalyst drivers. Perhaps there is a setting that I should adjust? Any ideas would be welcomed. Thanks!

What is the native resolution of your display and what resolution are you running the game at? An LCD panel's image quality is significantly worse at less than its native res.

How would I find out the native resolution of my display? Once I do, are you suggesting that I change the resolution of the game to match the native resolution of the display? If so, how would I do that? Thanks again for your help!!

EU2 has a settings program you can run that lets you set the res and music on/off.

Right-click on desktop-select Properties-settings tab

Easiest way is probably to go to your display properties (right-click on desktop as Castellon described) and see what the highest desktop resolution it will let you set is.

Yes. If you have the highest-resolution screen available for the 5100 (1400x1050) you won't be able to do it because the game only goes up to 1280x1024; in that case you could either do the "windowed mode" hack on the hoi.exe or set your laptop to display low resolutions in a box rather than full-screen (on my Inspiron 8200 this is Fn-F7). Otherwise set the game res as Castellon said (except this is HoI, not EU2 :) ).

:p
Hey when you Mod as many forums as I do it all blurs sometimes. :)

Thanks!

Thanks guys! It seems to have worked. Everything is a little smaller now, but certainly much more sharp. BTW, what is the default resolution for HoI? The reason I ask is that when I went into settings.exe 1024x728 was already chosen, but didn't take effect until I actually exited and restarted. This leads me to believe that the default is 800x600. Just curious.

Not sure what it defaults to on install but it might be 800x600. Regardless of what game resolution you set the opening menu, scenario selection screen, etc. are always 800x600. Game resolution is not set until the scenario actually starts.

I think 800x600 is the default.
After this one it was raised to 1024.
