Galactic Empire?

So, there's been a lot of talk about mimicking space franchises in this game. I've heard Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Warhammer 40K.

So I have to ask, can one turn a republic into a galactic empire and then spend the rest of the game fighting off a giant rebellion? (No franchise in mind ).

Speaking of galactic civil wars, is there a galactic slave trade? And if there is can a federation ban slavery resulting in a different kind of galactic civil war?

I would certainly hope so! I'd like to be able to take the federation mechanic and turn it into an imperial mechanic

I'm hoping for pre-set galaxy options where I get to fight an already established, but aging empire myself
