Galleys, buying inflated stuff in provinces and deflation

Three questions:

1. How much Galleys are more or less equal to a warship, they're much cheaper, but what are the pros/cons of having them (except for the meditteranian thing).

2. After going through hellish (15%) inflation, I got the deflation event (-33%) and I'm now back at 0%, when I want to upgrade a fortress it costs 100 and bailiffs and governors are 50, refineries and Naval Equipment thingies are still hideously expensive at 1200+ is there any sense to this ?

3. Is there any way (except for the special event) to get negative inflation (deflation) ?

If I recall correctly from the BG, 3 galleys make roughly one ship.
But that doesn't tell everything about galleys.

For example in the BG galleys are a tech level by themselves, not improvable though. Much better than early warships. 1 galleon is crap in front fo 3 Galleys. I'd say galleys stand better than warship up to tech level 16 or so.

There is a tech level called "Galleass", which is actually an improved version of Galleys (and which made the day at Lepante). In the BG, galleasses are handled by a special rule, but may be it is included in the tech tree in the CG.
In any case, do not expect galleys to stand in front of the later warships.


2.

No. Manufactories cost increase as you buy them. The manufactories I am currently buying in my GC are around 12000 apiece with no inflation. You just decide when it becomes to expensive for your budget.


3.

Governors give -1 each, once. Never below 0 though.

Galleys are much slower as well, and they're no good at the big seas, or in storm...

After playing Venice in a GC, I have reversed my opinion of Galleys (and having a navy.) They are quite satisfactory
in the Med/Black Sea (and I assume the Baltic.)

I don't have specific charts/info but I kept a 14 Galley fleet in Crete and also in Cyprus. They kept both Islands from invasions on several occasions (with or without special naval leaders.) An 18 Galley fleet at Ragusa kept enemies out of the Adriatic as well.

This was true through the late 16th century - I have not picked that GC up again (will later) so I am not sure how they do in later years.
