Hi all,

Recently reinstalled CKII (no mods, no betas, All major DLC), and it won't launch.

On steam it will say "running", immediately followed by "Syncing", as if the game had closed.

I've tried fresh installs, validation, updating drivers including C++ redistributables. I've also tried running in admin, and disabled and re enabled full screen optimisations. I've tried launching in windowed.

I haven't tried launching in 640x480 because for some reason the box is greyed out and cannot be selected.

I've switched drives, enabled access through my firewall, and I can't think of anything else that could cause the issue.

I have found reporter.wer through windows error reports, but I cannot decipher the information stored in it.

Running the game in beta's (Aside from the 64 bit betas) causes the game to actually prompt me with a C++ runtime error, saying that the application has requested runtime to terminate it in an unusual way, but goes into no specifics.

Can anyone help? I miss CKII.

Thanks

Mad

updating drivers including C++ redistributable

Do you have Visual c++ 2015 installed (both x64 and x86) ?

Appears to be required nowadays.
Can be found in Steam/Steamapps/common/Steamworks_shared

Might help.

PS: Steam should prompt you on launch to allow changes and verify if it's installed.
At least that's what happened to me while i had the new 2015-2019 version installed already.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling both 2015 and 2017, no luck unfortunately

Hmm..i 'll leave some other options here you can try:

1. Turn off anti-virus completely before you start the game.
2. Verify integrity of CK2 game within Steam app. Assuming the launcher shows up, the checksum for 3.3 should be XDSW.
3. Set override_resolution_safety = yes in settings.txt in the CK2 folder under My Documents/Paradox.
4. Disable fullscreen optimizations (right click ck2game.exe - properties-> compatibility tab - one of the options there)
5. in Win10 often Windows Defender runs.
Add ck2game.exe as an exception to the RANSOMWARE part of its settings ("Allow app through..").

Good luck. Maybe tech support reappears one day... ;)
