I have dowloaded patch 1.3 previous to installing VV. It was running fine. After installing VV, I get this error message, please advise:

Thanks, AndrewT, but now I have a new problem.

Once I fire the game up, and it does now start, maybe 5-10 minutes consistently into playing, it freezes. The kind of freeze that essentially stops my whole PC. The sound becomes like frozen in a tiny loop, like the same two notes over and over, and I can't Control-Alt-Delete out of it. I have to shut my whole PC down to get back to Windows.

Ideas? Need me to post anything else?
 
OK, try editing settings.txt and set multisampling=0 and renderTrees=no . If that doesn't help, try a complete reinstall:

First move any valued save games elsewhere. Then uninstall both games, and then manually delete the game directory - this is important. Reinstall Rome - if you use Vista, it's best to choose a new directory like c:\games\rome instead of the suggested path. Then download and install VV from Gamers Gate, and make 100% sure you point it to the same path the game installed into (eg c:\games\rome or whatever you used above) Then apply the 2.1 patch over Rome and VV, again in that same new directory.
