Game Crashes and victory points

I just recently bought the game, and I've gotta say I love it. Despite the numerous grammar errors, and lack of documentation it's addictive. Although I have yet to complete any game, I have some concerns.

First of all the game crashes constantly and for no apparent reason. Second, sometimes when I load games it will put me in control of a different country (usually England instead of Prussia).

Another thing that troubles me is using either F1 or F6 to check on the score it displays everyone with 0 victory points. Now as I understand it the entire point of the game is to accumulate victory points, and with this feature being disabled might cause problems.

I downloaded the patch (1.08 IIRC), but still no victory points. Any input would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Can't tell you anything about crashes

Ok, different country: if you are playing a game with let's say Prussia, and you load the game you had with England, you will continue playing as Prussia, but in a new game.

And VPs are turned off by default. before you start a new game, check the options and turn them on.

Crashes: I had ALOT of these until I freed up about 1GB of space on my hard drive. Haven't had one since - and I noticed a reference to this in other posts.

Victory Points: You might have them turned off. Look in the options menu at the start of the game and make sure they're 'on'.
