Game crashes before starting any ideas???

I recently purchased a brand new copy of Crusader Kings. Today I had time to install it, everything went without a hitch and I clicked on the icon to start the game. The opening sequence played well and and the music was working, I went to start a scenario but after choosing my faction and clicking on start the screen went black and an error report advising me the programme would need to be shut down appeared. Now I don't know much about computers but my laptop is only a month old and is reasonably well equipped, there is tonnes of free memory and I believe it meets the spec requirements for your game. Below are my laptop specifications

2 MB Cache

1024 MB RAM

80 GB Hard Drive

15.4" Widescreen HD Brightview Display

128MB Intel GMA 950 shared graphics

Any ideas?

Do you have the latest patch installed ? Patch 1.05

If not, that try that first. There were some bugs in older patches, which made it impossible to start as certain countries.

Which country did you try and in which scenario ?
