Hi, my game is crashing after about half an hour of gameplay consistently.

I have tried a complete fresh install with the following instructions:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-Vic3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Victoria3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3 folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Victoria3 or Documents Victoria3 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add Victoria3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

THEN Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

Following these instructions seemed to work for a longer period of time, but game crashed again and on following starts has also started crashing every half hour again.

I have attached the dxdiag.txt, pdx_settings.json, system.log, and error.log

I could not find an exceptions.txt file.

Any help you can give is appreciated!

Thanks,

Rahbaniat

Apologies, I may have provided the wrong error.log and system.log. Please find the ones related to the most recent crash here. If required, I do appear to also have them from previous crashes, so please let me know if you would like those as well.

We see two BlueScreens in that dxdiag. Have you seen them, are they associated with this game or something else? Next time you get one record the text on that screen for us please.

What fps do you see in the game before this crash, anything over 60?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

I haven't seen any blue screens at all, but I have had instances where my computer appears to restart at random, even during sleep mode. Unfortunately I have had even less luck figuring out why that happens compared to getting the game to work. One actually occurred between the last post and now, however, they have occurred at times where the game has not been running, so I don't think they are associated with the game itself. Unfortunately, as a result of it not showing a bluescreen, I'm not able to get the text it shows for you.

FPS seen during game: 165 frames

The temps before running the game:

CPU: 51 degrees
GPU: 34 degrees

Temps after:

CPU: 78 degrees
GPU: around 72 degrees

I am noticing CPU usage spike from around 4% to 20% every few seconds

Aha! You definitely have a cooling issue, at 60 fps your GPU should not get up there, neither should the CPU in fact. Overheating can cause the bluescreens too.

Clean out all air vents it has (compressed air cans are good for this). Make sure airflow to them is not blocked by anything like walls, books or whatever.
If that doesn't drop the temps enough, you probably have a faulty fan or a heatsink/thermal paste problem. You may need professional help at that point.

If this is an overheating issue I would have expected that to help, at least to some degree. Are you still getting temps up near 80c?

That should be basically okay, although 70c is a little high for the CPU (generally we'd expect higher temps for a GPU than CPU). Did the frequency of issues drop at all? Or still after ~30 minutes?
