I have been playing England in the Grand Campaign and whenever it reaches 1625 (in the beginning of one of the months), a funny sound will appear and it keeps on throughout the game, loudly, making it impossible to play. I initially thought it was because I hacked the save game so I decided to come clean and have another go at it. But the same thing happened again. I tried reinstalling but to no avail. Trying to overcome this, I saved the game just before 1625, and fast forward the game 2-5 years by changing the save file, but the problem will eventually rise again at a later date (always at 1st of any month) without a fixed date.

Anyone has any idea what's wrong?

Don't think it's my sound card, because the noise is only during the corrupted save game. Once I load another save game, the noise goes away.

You are playing EU and not the sequel EU2 arent you?

IF so this is a very old problem. I think it was fixed in a patch.
I take it you have downloaded and applied the EU 1.10 patch?

Thanks for the info. I am currently running on ver 1.07. And I have some difficulty after installing the patch.

After installing the patch and running the game, a small window will appear telling me that No Euro CD found.

I got the CD from a friend (not sure where he bought it) and I've tried patching it with different patches (UK, NA, BEN etc.) but it still gave me the same thing. Is there something I can do about it?

Thanks a lot.

you'll need to check the box. Hopefully, you're friend has also given you the box ;)

Now, if he bought it on E-Bay and the game came without a box, there's a good chance it's a pirated copy.

Would you like to describe the CD? We them might be able to suggest the correct patch.
It does begin to appear that it is a pirated copy. As the patches look for the copy protection then if it is a copy it is unpatchable.
In which case your problem is unsolvable.
If you like the game then I would suggest you purchase a proper release copy. EU1 is in the bargain bins at the moment and you should not have to pay a lot.
Sorry but that is the danger of obtaining CDs and not knowing the origins :(
