Hello, I recently bought Hearts of Iron Anthology, and I was able to install it fine (besides the installer crashing, I had to install the games using Windows Explorer.). I installed Hearts of Iron II, Doomsday and Armageddon. These are all up-to-date with their respective patches and will launch just fine.

The problem starts that whenever I try to start a new game or load a tutorial, the game immediately crashes to my desktop. I had the same problem with Europa Universalis III, but installing the latest patch fixed it for that--it doesn't seem to fix the problem I'm having with Hearts of Iron II. I am running Windows Vista, which probably contributes to this in some way.

Could someone please help me out with this problem? I'd be most appreciative!

  1. Register your game here first of all.
  2. Install HOI2:DD and ARMA, then apply the latest ARMA patch.
  3. Rename/delete the folder called "avi" in the game directory, as this may cause some weird behaviour.

Make sure that the Armageddon patch goes (went) to the correct folder. The different game collections seem to route the installation to different directories... and the installer for the patches often can't find them properly, thus spreading your install over several folders.
