love this game but as soon as i get to around march 42 crashes to desk top dosent matter what im playing as or senerio i have a gate way 1.4g win xp this is so frustrating can any one help im

Is it exactly the same date or just around the same time? What version are you running? Have you installed any mods? Are there any events happening right before the crash?
game crashes to dt
have an american version purchased it as soon as it came out so it must be one of the first have added the american patch made game much better but game still crashes around march 42 no matter what i do or play as have not done ay mods yet when i try to go to go to the ho editer page i get the message "criticle error failed to initialize direct draw try setting the color depth to 16 in your display setting and of course i have no idea how to do it so imstill with a game that is awsome that i cant play past a sertain point i posted a thread before but when i tried to add to it to give more info it wouldnt let me if u havent figured it out im not very pc literate so im begining to think the fix is more than ill be able to do but i want to try u can also reach me at NYHOUCP@AOL hoping i can catch some one on line to talk me threw it my pc is a 1.4 gate way lots of mem comp barely 1 year old stock accept added mem please help really love game

Did you install patch 1.05c? Or are you playing with an older patch..?

First things first.
1) Find the folder found in the HOI folder, named "AVI"
2) Right-click on it and select rename. rename it to AVI_back
3) right-click on the windows main desktop, select properties. Then select the settings tab, then you will see a box where you can change the resolution of your desktop and another where you can change the colour depth. Change this to 16BIT. select okay after making the changes.
4) Reboot, then try and play HOI.

there is a bug in 1.05 that causes the game to freeze in 1942, but think it was december.. try to download 1.05c - tweek patch and install it by extracting the files to the HOI folder (they should overwrite the old files) then start a new game and run it on very fast past 1942 to see if you still have the freeze or crash..

That was the Dec 13, 1941 freeze fixed in 1.05b & 1.05c. Sounds like he has a video settings problem too though. Hopefully he can get that fixed then someone can walk him through installing 1.05c.
Did you download and unzip the 1.05c patch so that its files went into the various subdirectories? If so, then it should be installed correctly and you should start a new game and see if you still have any problems. If you don't have it yet download it from this thread.
yes you should start a new game after you install 1.05c - do you have the latest drivers for your grafics card..?
