Game crashes when I save game

The game seems to always crash when I save it. This is with version 1.08. It jumps back to desktop without a peep, just shuts down. The save file is invalid.

this pretty much ruins the game for me, any suggestions?

system is a PIII 800 with an EIDE HDD.

Note that I can save successfully at the very start of a game, but not after iot's been uinderway

I had the same problem, also jerkiness with the mouse. I lowered the graphics acceleration slider down a notch in the control panel, now the game runs perfectly. When I'm not playing I reset the slider because it disables some of the graphic cards features.
