Game crashes when I try to save

Strategy first v1.08

OS & build/SP:
Windows XP SP2 on a HP laptop

I read the stickies but I still have the following problem:

Whenever I try to save a game, any game as any country, the whole program crashes. I just got it a few days ago and patched it after it happened the first time. Everything else about the gameplay seems to be working fine, I just can't save. I have not been able to find anything that works so far, any ideas?

Are you using "strange" characters (!,? etc) for the save game name?

To copy my response from the other thread you posted in:
Who is the publisher of your version? Do you have a "scenarios\save games" folder?

He told you who the publisher is (Strategy First)
The question you really need to ask is if his version came with the conquest pack or as part of some other package of games. THat is the version with the messed up saves and there is a sticky thread that deals with that.

No I'm not using any 'special' characters in the title to save.

I did find a scenario folder, but not a saved game folder. Is there supposed to be one?

Yes it came as part of a game multi-pack, but I don't know which one, I just got the EU2 disk, that's all

Not having the save games folder is probably the cause. See the sticky thread about 'CoTN and the "Conquest Pack"' that Castellon referred to. There should be a patch from Strategy First.

What he said, that is the best choice, since we do not support your version, I don't know how that patch will interact with 1.08 since the off disk version was not 1.08.

If you don't like the results just add the save folder manually.

For saving to work you must have a folder under "scenarios" called "save games".

If you have no save folder then I assume you have the veriosn released with the conquerers pack. THat was a Strategy First release and you should get the special patch from thier website.
Among other things it corrects the save game folder problem.
