Game crashes when trying to choose character to start with or moments after started doing anything with recommended character - CRASH REPORTS ATTACHED

whenever i go to choose a character to start with it loads the map but game then crashes without doing anything - those crashes never show errors in the crash reports
when i try to play a recommended character whenever i do anything e.g. marry my character off, get guardianship of child , click on notifications , game immediately crashes.
have updated drivers , checked integrity of game files so on and so forth,
all crash logs below that had errors shown

Add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

Hi Andrew i tried the first thing you said that seemed to work for recommended character , however it still crashed upon clicking notifications at the top of the screen. i will attach the crash log for that. will keep testing to see if rest of the game works fine. if still have issues will try the second solution

- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

unfortunately despite clean install and the game seeming to run better the first solution has not worked it came up again with the invalid achievement mother of us all issue.. please find attached latest error report, system Log , PDX settings and the DXDIAG document. thank you

Ah thanks for letting me know. I know my laptop is old but still has I5 still has suitable graphics card etc

Could be hardware issues but the specific error messages suggest more game issue

Because a lot of people who are having issues are using laptops. this is the #1 fix for laptop users who cant run games. The game uses the Intel card which crashes the game since intel cards and drivers are horrible.

I look at people's dxdiags, determine they're on a laptop, and just give them the most common fix for literally any game crashing when loading.

I'd still try to ensure the game is using the Nvidia card just as a baseline

Can you also post yoru debug.log as that also has some more information

Debug won't have as much information as I followed the tech supports instructions to the letter and deleted the original folders before full restore and only tried the once since. Can try later and any debugs from that post

also if the game is crashing can you see if anything userful shows up in the event viewer. it might show a dll file that's faulting which might be useful to know

If it crashes again, the debug.log and anything in the event viewer woudl help

No it's not in an event viewer. You know when you click on notifications. Music will stop I will wait not touch anything and then it will just crash to desktop not even freeze

I go to arrange a marriage for example and say click on a person and it will do the same , same with guardianship

Selecting a character to play as out the whole map. It will have the map up / where you choose a character and do the same.

I've verified the files as well

also looking deepr your 820M drivers are from 2015. THere are some updated drivers from Nvidia for the 820M from April 2019 (specifically for windows 8.1) so that also can be a place that might help as well. I"m guessing you're using the original Lenovo drivers so you might have to uninstall those, then upgrade to the Nvidia ones

Youll have to get them directly from Nvida. Usually laptops ship with the "OEM speciifc drivers". Lenovo basically updates those drivers "never" so they are technically up to date, in the sense of "we have never actually touched these drivers in half a decade". Thus its better to update your drivers directly from Nvidia. You may have to uninstall the existing drivers first, then install hte Nvidia ones.
