I really don't know what is happening here put this is my proplem:

When i start a new game, the game will work for like few seconds and then the screen goes black. the game crashes and windows says the usual error message.

There ain't much information, but if someone could just help a little bit.

Rename your avi folder to avi.old

Set color depth to 16 bit

Update your drivers. (sound and graphic)

Update windows

Use the latest patch.

I did. I also reinstalled HoI but that didn't help ether.

When I play for a reasonable amount of time on one of my other computers the screen goes black and then the error message comes up. It appears to be random, as some days it is fine, others it crashes four times.

It's right annoying, though.

Ok. Then something that came with the installation of your new motherboard is affecting the game.

For starters, you are using a VIA chipset on your motherboard. The VIA AGP drivers are notoriously buggy. Go into the configuration screen, computer management, and then device manager. Goto the system devices node, and select the VIA CPU to AGP2.0/AGP3.0 Controller. Then goto the properties, device driver tab, and change the driver to a stock (either generic or Microsoft) AGP driver.

Secondly, VIA IDE accellerator drivers are also known to be buggy. However, since you appear to be using SATA/Raid driver, you cannot easily switch back to the generic/Microsoft ones.

Also, you may try to run a comprehensive memory test. A good memory tester can be found here. This one uncovered about 4000 memory access errors in my own VIA chipset about a year ago. Not the actual memory modules itself were at fault, but the VIA chipset turned out to be to blaim. Needless to say, I no longer have a motherboard with a VIA chipset :)
