I'm constantly running into an issue with applications eating up the space on my Windows partition. Save games are a big culprit, since every game decides it is a good idea to put them in My Documents instead of on my primary partition where I actually installed the game. Evidently the partition was nearly full and I hadn't realized it, and a long CKII session (with a lot of saving) pushed it over the top. The problem is that after the partition ran out of space, the game would continue to allow me to create new saves without any complaint. The saves were all corrupted, and only a megabyte in size each.
I had no idea about this problem until I tried to play the next day. As soon as I clicked on "Saved Games" I would get a CTD - the tab never opened. To fix the problem, I had to move the corrupted saves out of the Save Game folder.
There really needs to be some sort of check to make sure that the save is completed properly. I could have lost a lot of progress without realizing it, since the issue doesn't manifest itself unless you quit the game or resign to the main menu to load a save.
