Hi,

I've bought a digital copy of EU: Rome Gold via Steam. I am eager to play it, but it just doesn't run. About 5 seconds after I click on the game's icon on the Steam Library, I get a pop-up message from Vista stating that "Rome deixou de funcionar" (portuguese for Rome is no longer running"). I have already updated my ATI Radeon drivers, and set the RomeGame file to run on compatibility mode as per your instructions on the sticky post - but to no avail.

What should I do?

Apply the latest DirectX 9 update: you have to download the installer (dxwebsetup.exe), save it to a local directory, and then run it.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en . Also make sure you run th egame as the Admin user, and to disable desktop composition.

If that doesn't help please post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that if you use Vista/Win7 and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista/win7 to a non-system directory, like c:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis - Rome\, where [name] is your Vista/Win7 user name. You may have to search your C: drive for them. Also open up Rome /logs/ setup.log and search for "checksum", and post that line only here please.
