Ok, might as well be my first post.
This is pretty annoying, and I can't consistently reproduce it. After I start up the game, choose a scenario or saved game, and click start, the screen goes blank and the game just sits there, and the music plays. I can CTRL-ALT-DEL out to the desktop. At this point the music loops and I have to restart. The odd thing is that if I pick a scenario and a country, or a saved game, and hit start quickly enough, it doesn't hang very often. Waiting on the selection screen will always result in a hung game.
I have tried:
Disabling music, HHD defrag, alternate/updated video drivers, and a bunch of other things that don't come to mind right now.
My system:
ASUS A7V (KT133a) mobo
AMD Athlon T-Bird 1Ghz
512MB RAM
32MB TNT2 vid-card (Nvidia 23.XX drivers. They actually work best for me.)
40GB Seagate Barracuda HDD
Creative 12x DVD
Sony 32x/8x/4x CD-RW (Adaptec for recording media)
Win98 and Win2k Pro dual boot
DirectX 8.0
(Do any but the first four and last two matter with EU anyway?)
EU I play in Win98 'cause in Win2k I get that annoying blank screen on startup (refresh rate prob.). I tried everything to fix that, including suggestions from good thread here, but nothing worked so I just play it in '98 now.
Any suggestions? I would like to return to terrorizing NAmerica with my Burgundian Empire.
