So the problem I've been having is that I will play the game for a while (usually 10-15 minutes) only to have everything freeze except the mouse. I then have to use the task manager to close it. I have no idea what's causing it, but I have noticed that it only occurs while the game is unpaused. I thought It had to do with overloading my GPU with calculations because it seems to occur less frequently when trees and water are turned off, but I don't really know for sure. I've also checked error.log and found this printout which appears to always coincide with the error.

[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: gfx//coats_of_arms//dynasties.tga.
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[texturehandler.cpp:169]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound naval_battle_background not found.
[sound.cpp:232]: Sound naval_battle_background not found.

I did some digging around and found a thread where someone at least reported a similar error in the log file, where it was recommended to delete the Paradox folder in my documents. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing as well as removing all local content relating to the game in the my documents folder, but have been unable to figure out what's wrong.

I can provide more information about my configuration if it's needed.

Those errors are normal and nothing to do with your problem.

What version and checksum show on the main game menu? Do you have the game from Steam or GG?

please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity), settings.txt, system.log and error.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload).

i've been having a similar problem, though it also occurs when the game is paused for me from time to time
If you want help too, please start your own fresh thread with full problem and system details, thanks.

I have the game from Steam so I'm running the latest version 1.05g (GUHH).

Are dropbox links ok?

Well that's all perfectly fine. Your symptoms do sound like an overheating problem. First can you make sure nVidia's VSync (vertical sync) is enabled - if the game is allowed to get to very high fps rates that can happen.

Also Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU) 1/ before starting the game up and 2/ after say 20 minutes' play. If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, Google for and install SPEEDFAN.

Well I have to say those temperatures are quite modest, especially for a laptop. Yet the fans show a different story. Did you confirm that Vsync is enabled?

You might get fraps and measure your fps, if that goes over about 50 try using fraps to limit it to 48 and see if that helps.

Vsync is enabled. Fraps generally registers between 50-60 fps (mostly 58-60 actually). The only way I found to slow down the frame rate with fraps was by using the video function. I set it to 45fps, but I still had the same issue.

Well I have to admit I'm puzzled. Your fans behave as if your machine was overheating, yet your temps and fps look basically fine. Can I see the FULL output from Speedfan please?

My only other thoughts are, frankly, stabs-in-the-dark: backrev your video driver to an older version, and update your bios (firmware) which is nearly 3 years old.

I wonder if it could just be that my comp for whatever reason can't handle GPU temps as high as others (given that it's a laptop I think it's possible).

How do I get a full output from speed fan?

GPU 48->64
HD0 39->41
HD1 38->42
Temp1 52->72
Core0 50->65
Core1 50->64
Core2 52->73
Core3 52->66

Fan RPM 2390->4170

Graphing the temperatures I think helped a bit apparently Temp1 and Core2 temps are high for some reason. Does this mean anything?

Certainly does, yes. Those temps over 70 are almost certainly your problem. Whether you have blocked airvents, a fan or fans not working, need a bios/firmware update for it to cool properly ... I'm not sure. You may need to take it somewhere to get it looked at.
