Have played as Rome from the beginning -- 365 days for 200 years without a problem. Now the game freezes up. DXDiag and MsInfo files are attached. Any help would be appreciated. From the beginning, I've run the 1.2 patched version. Setting file also attached along with zip of last save before crash.

Can you try updating your video driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html

Also edit settings.txt and change refreshRate=70, to match your desktop, and multisampling=0 .

Note these ideas may not fix your current game, but will hopefully stop it happening again. Also hopefully podcat will drop in here soon and look at your actual save game.

hi and thanks for the save. I'v added it to the bug database. I will try to post here once I have time to take a look at it in case it is something that can be easily fixed on your side.

No Luck!

I changed the refresh rate and multisample as requested in the setting.txt. I then started the game from the savegame file. The program still froze on 1 August. The music plays. The mouse moves around the screen. Animated characters stop moving. There is no response to mouse selections such as Diplomacy button, find province button, etc. I had to use the computer's reset button to get out of the program.
I then installed the recommended NVidia driver update. I restarted the computer again. Once the Windows desktop appeared, I closed all extraneous applications and then started the game from the savegame file. The program again froze on 1 August. The same effects occurred -- music plays, mouse moves, animated figures freeze, and mouse clicks are unresponsive. This time I was able to use the Window key to get out of the game and close it.
Any other suggestions?

As I said, I had no confidence those changes will fix your current save game, but were mostly intended to stop whatever problem occurred from happening to your next game.

podcat says above that he may (or may not!) be able to see something in your save game causing the hang, so all may not be lost with it.

2 August Freeze

I have the autosave feature turned on to save at the beginning of each year. So, I went back to the autosave and started from there. When 1 July rolled around, I again saved the game. This time I made it to 2 August before the game froze with the same symptoms. I've included zip versions of both the autosave and the 1 July versions. I hope it helps. I really would like to be able to play the game to the end.

I've got a similar issue here, but much earlier in the game.
Exactly on the same day each time.
Had it a couple of times before, but was able to fix it by rebooting and reloading the autosave.
Sadly it didn't work this time anymore.

It worked -- well kind of

I tried the post: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8642413&postcount=1
I found one province, Vettones, with the
Code:
owner="BAR"
which according to the history had been owned by Barbarians since 532.1.9.
There were no
Code:
owner="REB"
As suggested, I deleted the owner and restarted the game. That didn't work. :eek:
So, I went in and re-assigned the province
Code:
owner="VAC"
That did the trick. :p
This seemed to be tied to 5 Barbarians moving from Arturus to Vettones arriving August 1. See the attached .BMP file. I wonder if deleting the Barbarians would have worked as well. I don't know how to find the barbarians in the save file.
Re-assigning the ownership also seems to have finally convinced Carthage to move it's 50 unit army from Vaccaei to counter Lusitani's 7 unit army in Arturus. :confused:
