I have two computers, a laptop and desktop. On my desktop the game runs perfectly fine, but on my laptop the game will often freeze up. I'm able to hear game sounds and I think the game could theoretically proceed, but nothing on the screen updates. I've started to pay attention to when this happens, and I've noticed it only happens when dialog boxes open up that show a second game character. Every once in a while it'll happen when there is only a single choice in the box (such as accepting an invited courtier), but it almost always (~80%) it happens when there is more than one option in the dialogue box. I didn't start paying attention to this aspect until later, so I can't say as well, but I don't think I've ever seen the game freeze unless the dialogue box is one that pauses the game.

I've tried with mods on and uninstalled, the same save on multiple computers, different saves, different DLCs, various versions of the game, verifying cache, and completely uninstalling and re-installing the game, but it keeps happening. Any other suggestions?

Has this always happened ever since the game has been on this computer? Or only since what change or update?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

I first started playing the game about a year ago as I purchased it during the 2016 Winter Sale. I didn't notice that problem, but also didn't play much until I purchased Old Gods and Sword of Islam in June, at which point I started noticing the problem. For a while the crashes would happen about once ever 1-2 hours, but lately it's gotten more frequent. I can have it crash 3-4 times before finally having it last long enough to hit the next autosave point. As for temps, I have an integrated GPU so temps are the same as GPU. Speedfan lists my temps as
CORE0:50
CORE1:51

Edit:
After checking the temps and waited until it froze up again. Oddly enough, the CORE temps were consistently in the high 40s low 50s while I played, but right before it froze up the temps dropped to 39-40 and CPU usage dropped dramatically.

The game is not supported on those. However that should not cause crashes, just slowness.

[systemsettings.cpp:212]: System memory: 1024MB
This normally means you are running ck2game.exe in some compatibility mode. Undo that please.

Change that settings.txt as follows:

refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no

last_mods={"mod/disable_dlc_ads.mod.mod" "mod/patrum_scuta_ironman.mod.mod"}
Do you get this problem without those mods in use?

Sorry for the long time before replying. I'd forgotten about this thread. I found that the game was running in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode. When I disabled it the game started running significantly better. I did remember why I set it to that mode in the first place, however. When opening, closing, or returning the game to menu it stops responding for anywhere from 2-10 minutes. Once it starts responding again there are no problems until I do one of those actions again, however. Setting it back to Windows 7 mode fixes that issue but causes it to hang/crash again. I'm not sure if those issues are related, but I figured it worth reporting.

As I mentioned above ... !

I'm not at all sure why that would ever happen, nor why Wim7 mode of all things should help that. an i ask what made you think of trying that, did you read something somewhere about that?
