If you start a new game, play a few days, save the game, exit the program, reboot, start the game, can you then load the file you just saved?
It works...I'm going to try, on the game in question, all the saves from newest to oldest to see which load...
Well it is my understanding that there have been problems reported with the beta patch and saved games but you said you were playing 1.03a.
You could check in with the bug forum, but if the save works from the test I gave you then looks like you are okay from a hardware tech aspect.

The tale gets weirder. I just downloaded the Nov 18th beta, hoping to start something new. But I didn't delete my old saves, and the corrupted files opened! (Of course, it did crash the first day). Still, this is becoming very unusual...
