Game hangs/crashes when I try to load a game.

Hi All!

Had a problem that just started today. I started a new campaign, played for about 80 years, took a break, and when I tried to load the game again, the game just hung. I had the moving hourglass going for about 5 minutes before I Ctrl alt Del out of the game. I tried to load the game several more times unsuccessfully.

I am running the steam version, and I have verified file integrity and defragged game files, to no noticeable change.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Just to be sure, it shows the right version and checksum on the main game menu? Under what patch level was this game started? You can start a fresh game OK? What about autosaves?

I started it today, and my game was fully patched up to 1.05c.
I checked some of my previous saves, and they work fine, its only the past few auto saves that I can't load.

Again, under what patch level were the problem games started? 1.04 or after?

Hmm, OK the only known issue like that is if the disk your save games are on runs out of space - that corrupts subsequent saves. Is that possible?

I've had a similar problem with saves not loading and then CK2 crashing. I started a Barcelona game after upadating to 1.05, then updated to 1.05c during the game. Now neither autosaves or "normal" saves will load.

Any advice??

I'm having the same problem. I started a new game yesterday (patched up to 1.05c) and today whenever I choose a save file from the load menu the game hangs.

Did not have this problem previously, even with my other game started in 1.05c. I have plenty of space on my HD.

Not a known issue, although if we get many more reports ... anyway let's try a full clean reinstall.

If this is Steam: uninstall the game from Steam and move any valued save games elsewhere. Manually delete the CK2 directories from under the Steam AND MyDocuments folders, now reinstall the game via Steam.
If GamersGate: Move valued save games elsewhere, and uninstall the game. Manually delete the CK2 directories from where GG put them and from MyDocuments. Reinstall the game , download 1.05c patch again and apply it.

Then try the problem BEFORE you move the old saved games back.

Update: apparently only the last 5-6 saves were corrupted. Other saves work fine, as well as newer saves which I've since been able to load. No idea why those saves were corrupted, but this is definitely not a systemic problem.

Were the bad saves all from one game being played, or separate games at all?

But I have to admit I'm puzzled by this one, as I said above there is no known cause aside from running out of disk space.

Same issue. No matter which save is clicked (some autosaves from current, and some from two previous games) the game hangs. At least two of the separate games worked last night, so basically this all happened at once. It seems unlikely to be a save-corruption issue.

Myself and my mate are having a similar issue. Playing an MP game, transferring it across ingame produces a 0KB file. Trying to load a game crashes for me and my friend as well, however our other player is able to freely host without crashing. Manual transfer and adding it to save folder, followed by joining him works though. This game was started on 1.05d
