Has anyone else ecountered this error?

You start your game and you're playin along and all the sudden the game locks up. After about 10 or 15 seconds you can move the mouse again.

Only to find out that the game has automatically initialized itself from the cd-rom. And the start up screen appears. And of course I just hit quit and the game procedes.

However, now your mouse sucks and it can't move at all. If it does it's skipping all over the place. So of ourse I have to save and restart.

No I haven't had that happen but it sounds like a mouse driver problem. Does it not occur in other programs?

Are you using a cordless mouse (I do and love it but sometimes the batteries get low and this may happen)?

The other thing is the CD starting up the game all of a sudden while playing. That is wierd. I think you may have a device conflict between the CD and mouse. Check your IRQs and hardware settings in control panel->system.

Have you added another device recently? That is usually a very likely cause.

Good luck and WB Strom.

It doesn't happen for other games though.

Just EU. And EU does other wierd things sometimes. I may have to reinstall it sometime.

It's not a cordless mouse and I play AoE 1,2 with that mouse. So it works fine trust me.

It sounds like your CD reader re-initializes itself during game play. It may be something with the CD audio that does this. You can try disabling Auto Insert Notification.

Right click My Computer and choose properties => Click Device manager tab => Find your CD-reader in the hardware listing => Right click CD rom and choose properties => From this dialog or under one of the other tabs there will be a checkbox for Auto Insert Notification. Un-check this and click ok.

I'm having similar problems with the mouse - as witnessed in another thread. I also suspect that the autorun feature is at fault, since it seems to be the only new feature compared to the German version, which did not have the problem.
