Game keeps crashing

I bought HoI 2: complete and Darkest Hour about a week ago on steam and I can't get either to work. They start loading then the screen goes black and I get kicked to windows and it tells me that there is an error and the game had to be shut down. This happens with both of them. I have to clue whats wrong or how to fix it so hopefully you can help.

Game Version & Patch (incl. publisher):
HoI 3: Complete and Darkest Hour downloaded from Steam.

OS & build/SP: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium.

Computer, CPU & speed:
Gateway FX4710. Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9300

RAM: 6.00 GB

Free HDD space: 380.98 GB

Video (brand, model, driver, memory):
Nivida GeForce 9800 GT 3306MB
Sound (brand, model, driver):

DirectX Version: Directx 11

is directx 11 not good enough? also I tried to find directx 9 online but everything i saw was for 10 or 11. I downloaded the game from Steam and I cannot even find any folders let alone rename it.

Please do the following (to troubleshoot your HOI2 install -- you have to go to the Darkest Hour forum for support of that product):

1. Uninstall HOI2 Complete.
2. Go to this link and install DirectX 9.0c - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d.
To answer your question .. yes you need DirectX 9.0c for HOI2 to work.
3. Redownload and install HOI2 Complete. Install it in the following folder C:\Games\HOI2Complete
4. Rename the AVI folder (in C:\games\HOI2Complete) to AVIBack

Please post results.

I did what you said but unfortunatly it continues to do the same thing.

I bought the HOI2 Collection from Steam and encountered the same problem. I renamed the folder avi too AVIBlack and it worked fine. Thanks for the help guys.
