I got the game a couple of days ago and it is a great upgrade from EU1 (which is a great game).

I have a pentium II, 400MHZ, 64mb Ram Toshiba notepad. I have had no problems with crashes, bugs, etc. The game runs fine but is SLOW.

I put the 1.01 patch on, cleaned up my windows/temp directory, defraged my hard drive, turned music off, and shut down everything except explorer and systray. Started the game and it just crawls.

I really want to play the new game so I dealt with it. I played the game, then would play solitare (with a real deck of cards) while waiting for the game to proceed. I took showers, fixed dinner, played with the kids, put out Christmas decorations...

I get about one game year per hour of play (if I pay attention), otherwise its worse if the game pauses while I'm busy counting ceiling tiles.

I don't know what else to do, I got to 1433 (14 game years) as Scotland before I finally gave up.

I've seen the links on this problem in the forum and have followed the advice, what I would like to know is, has anyone got good results with only 64mb?

ram doesn't cost much, maybe you could upgrade to 128 or 256mb? It should cost you around 25$-35$ and it's worth it.

As Joe said, later scenarios are faster. the 1492 one is faster and the later ones should also be faster.

Had the same problem so I bought extra 256MB RAM ($37) to give me 320MB and EU2 runs fine (when it's not CTDing...but that's another prob). By the way, before I added the 256MB RAM the game ran, but in one 2 hour marathon the hard drive read/wrote CONTINUOUSLY. Invest in the extra RAM, you'll need it eventually and it's cheap, and you wont burn out the HD.
