Game not starting

When starting the game either form the .exe or the Steam library the game does not start (doesn't even get to the launcher). I already tried reinstalling it but the problem still exists. Also already tried deleting the documents/paradox games/crusader kings 2 folder as was suggested in a similar steam forums discussion.

Forgot to memtion I'm running the game on Windows 7 and drivers are all the latest version.

Edit2: The game also still works if i revert back to the last patch. It's just the HF patch that does not work.

Managed to fix it by reverting to the last patch and then switching back to the newest update.

Go to Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II. In there, delete the folder called "gfx". Note that this is NOT the /gfx/ folder under Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 .
Now restart your game, it will recreate that folder and fix the problem.

You also need to add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list/whitelist of your antivirus app.

Obviously disable all mods until they get updated accordingly.

Having trouble again seems to be after every restart, though the method of fixing by reloading the patch still works for me, with this added ck2game.exe and the whole folder to the Kaspersky exceptions and tried stopping the protection and then starting the game which also does not work. Even deactivated Windows Defender and added it to the exceptions there.

Got it fixed. Probably just didn't work until after yet another restart.
