Hi there,

I had Hearts of Iron 2 back when it first came out, hadn't played it for quite some time, and just bought "Anthology" today. I attempted to install it on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite...unsure of the exact specs right at this moment), but it doesn't get through the installation process in any respect.

As soon as I pop the disc in, a grey menu pops up asking me to select which game to install (I select HOI2). The minute I click that, a "Microsoft Windows" menu pops up saying that a problem has caused the "Anthology Menu" to close, followed by "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".

I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to this crap, so I can't troubleshoot my way out of a rubber tube. I figured at first that it may have had something to do with Vista, or the fact that I'm trying it on this particular Laptop...in any case, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not to fret my friend, open the disc manually by using Windows Explorer. Select the game out of the folders located within and voila! You should be able to install the game no problem. It's a Vista thing by the way. It happens to all of us.

Step By Step instructions (Just In Case)

Put the CD in.
Go to "My Computer"
Select the drive that you put the CD in by right clicking.
Click the option that pops up named "Explore"
Find the HOI-whatever folder for the version you wish to install
Open the folder
Double click Setup.
Ta-da!

:D

EDIT: All of us with Vista, that is....

They're all standalone versions on the anthology. You can install just one - or all of them. Patches are optional.

I suppose my confusion comes from tracing the patches back to the proper games. I first installed HOI2, and then the 1.3a patch, followed by Armageddon. Are there patches that apply to Armageddon that I should be installing now as well, or will the game be fully updated? Thanks again.

Yes apply the 1.2 Armageddon patch to your Arma games. That is the only patch you need to have to have the most recent version of the game.

It is also recommended that you don't install games(or anything else) into the C:/Prograsm Files folder with Vista. Won't hurt anything just causes some minor problems.

Also, I downloaded the "Doomsday Armageddon 1.2" patch and installed it, but it still says "Ver 1.1" in the top corner when I run the game. Am I missing something with applying it properly?

Make sure that you installed it in the correct folder. For Anthology it`s

C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Armageddon

or whatever folder your version of Armageddon is actually in.

I could not get the 1.2 Armageddon patch to install when Armegeddone was installed in the Program Files directory. It worked fine once I moved the game installation out of the Program Files directory.

That would be the problem that was mentioned above.

See above for solution to your problem.
