I have patched HO2 with patch 1.3a. I played Japan in the 1941 campaign: After I conquered about 2/3 of China in September 41 the event "The fate of China" fired. Before I could select any choice the game crashed. I reloaded a saved game, the event fired again, and the game crashed again. When I reloaded the saved game a second time, the event did not fire within the next few days and I did not continue gaming.

Did this happen to anybody else? Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do about it?

Thank you for any answers!

What game-speed were you playing at? Have you tried turning the speed down drastically from the time you load the save until after the "Fate of China" event fires? Complex events (such as this one) will sometimes cause CTDs if you are playing at the fast settings on an under-spec machine.

Hi blue emu, thank you for the fast answer! I was playing at the slowest possible game speed (as I usually do). In any way, it is good to know that the game apparently can sometimes cause CTDs after such events. Of course any suggestions of what I could try to continue the present game are most welcome ;)

When you installed your patches... in what order did you install them?

Paradox uses this system:

If a patch ends in a number (eg: 1.1 or 1.2 or 1.3) then it is a "benchmark" patch, which replaces all the earlier patches. You install it instead of installing any of the earlier patches; and it is meant to be installed directly over your original Retail game install.

If a patch ends in a letter (eg: 1.3a or 1.3b) then it is an "incremental" patch, and must be installed from the last benchmark patch forward.

Eg: To install up to patch 1.3a :

1) Make a clean install of your original retail game
2) Install the v1.3 benchmark patch
3) Install the v1.3a incremental patch

Is that what you did?

Hi,

this is what I did by now:

1. I deinstalled my HO2 version using the deinstall command from the
startup menu in my laptop

2. I reinstalled the original HO2 version

3. I installed patch 1.3a (Sorry, I was unable to find a 1.3 benchmark patch
anywhere, could you please tell me where to get such a patch?)

4. I installed patch 1.3b (AI patch)

5. I copied the backups of my savegames into the savegame folder

6. I launched the game and continued the last savegame of my Japan 1941
game. Soon, the "fate of China" event fired and I did not get a CTD
again!:) That was great! Again thank you very much for your support!

However, after I continued gaming for a couple of hours, I tried to attack a Redchina Army. My attacking armies had full strength and full organization. Curiously I did not see any battle screen (not even for a few seconds), but immediately got the message that I lost the fight. My armies did not loose any organization or strength but had to reorganize. Thereafter I attacked again. The same thing happened. I loaded my last savegame (of course after the "fate of China" event) and the same thing happened again. This has never happened to me before (and I played the game for a long time).

Any ideas of what I might have done wrong this time are most welcome;)

I have read the "you must read this before posting" and the stickies. I am happy to provide the required information about my system next time. Unfortunately, right now, I am not using the same computer.
