playing the '36 scenario the game is quite slow but playable, but loading the '44 scenario it takes 8 seconds  for one game hour to go by! I know if I carry on playing '36 then it will eventually become as slow as '44 owing to the amount of troops etc on the map. I blatently have much higher than the recomended system spec and I am running 1.2.
DxDiag results in following post.

Please help!
P.S. I recently updated my graphics card I had the same problem on the old one...

Start with reading jpd's FAQ on slowdowns in the Victoria Support forum.
It all applies to HOI2 as well.

I have, none of it worked.

This sounds like a normal slowdown due to the size of the game, you did not say how the speeds effect this, does it play better on normal speed than very fast?

It plays the same. It sounds like normal slowdown to me as well but i have more than double the recomended specs so i'm confused.

There are Min specs to run the game in a diminished capacity, recommended that will let you run a full function game, which you can. Even people with twice your system suffer some slow down on big scenarios.

So...I have no hope?

Well there are things that you can so that are trade offs. Such as no music, reduced graphics ... other things outlined in the FAQ.

I tried them all...The one about msdiag helped me run Victoria :) but none of them help for HOI2.

What type of video card do you have? Also do you have the latest drivers installed? DX9.0c?
ya I have the latest drivers. My current video card is a ATI Radeon 9250 124mb, i only got it a couple of weeks ago, and i had the same problem on the old one, an Nvidea 64mb.

Ok Try and use some older drivers go back one driver at a time and test the game with an older driver till you find one that works better. Some new drivers and HoI2 game don't get along very well. I have a GeForce FX5200 128mb I had the latest driver in and the game was sluggish. I then reverted back to my old driver and it was a lot better. it actually made the game run smooth till about 1944 then things started to get a little slower but still good.

Thanks I'll try that out.

Really, renaming the tiles.bmp file did not help you out?

I can't find that in my HOI2 folder  where is it?

Should be in the map folder right where the FAQ says it is. ;) :)

All this should help a bit, but the biggest limiting factor on the speed of most Paradox games is RAM - on my last computer, which had 512MB (and a tendency to overheat and turn itself off...), HOI2, Victoria and Crusader Kings were very very laggy even when I tried all the other fixes.

My current one has 1024, and everything runs quite well, but it still slows down a bit towards the end of most of these games due to the save file getting clogged up with units.

So, you may need to invest in some more RAM to cure the problem...

I have 756mb of RAM, I can't get any more :(
However, I should be getting a Pentium 4 3.6Gb next week so that should solve things....

I have also heard people that will load up a save as an couple of Maritime AI nations like England and disband empty fleets. THey report this to help with speed issues late in the game as well.

Castellon, would a new processor get rid of the laginess? Or is it RAM?
