This is bizarre. It was previously working fine, but after installing the latest patch, I fired up Victoria, but it only got to the "Initializing Globals" bit on the main loading screen, and then froze. Happened 4 times. Restarted my computer twice. No dice.

What's the deal? I've got the minimum specs, running Windows 98.

Try renaming the AVI folder to AVI_back.

I had this problem once. Have you done any editing of files? Economy files, unit files. If you make an error in those, it will prevent the game from loading. Took me 3 hours to figure out what had happened.

That's one of the reasons a fresh reinstall before applying a patch is always suggested.

I had the same problem. I renamed the avi to avi_bak, that worked for me

I think you will see that is the first thing I suggest above. ;)
