I know many posts have been made according to this problem but mine is special. Although my PC is up to date and enough ressources are available it lags.

The problem is quite strange since after installing the game I can start and play it without any problems it always runs at good speed even after playing more than 1 year. Looking at the task manager my CPU is at about 60%.

But after quitting and restarting the Game it lags completely and my CPU is at 100%. UNPLAYABLE.

At the moment I always have to reinstall to play the game.

Here some notes:
AMD 64 3000+ running at 1.8 GHz, GeForce 6600 128 MB, 1024 MB Ram,
MSI K8N Neo4 Series (MS-7125)

Would be great if any ideas were posted.

Reinstall? I assume you mean reboot. ;)

But if not, and you do mean reinstall, have you tried rebooting your system? It sounds as if some resources are not released properly after quiting, resulting in less resources available in the next game session. This is the most likely explanation for the 100% CPU usage, and consequently the lag you experience.

If so, then we need to dig deeper into your system's configuration fo find the cause.

But for starters, as it quite often the cause of troubles, try renaming the AVI folder in your main hoi2 folder to AVI_BACK. That will disable the intro movies, and in so doing, the bink player playback software.

Thx for helping me.

I really meant reinstalling and rebooting the PC didnt help. The game also starts properly and loads fast but starting to play it really lags. I really dont know what to do.

But I will try disabling the movies later on since I dont want to reinstall now cause of New Gamestart :). Hope U got some ideas.

Make sure you are not running anything else in the background.

I have the same problem. I got a very good pc. (512 ram, ati radeon 9800pro, P4 3.8ghz) and it laggs beyond belief. Reisntall used to help, but not any more. I shut down background tasks, ect. closed programs, and all the stuff u said above. Nothing bloody works.

Please read the forum rules in the sticky thread named "You must read this before posting"

I recently ran into this same issue. The game used to run fine no matter what I had going on in the background (usually I have iTunes open, X-Fire open, and a few other programs running). Then recently, I needed to reboot just to play, once it loaded the scenario, the game would run extremely laggy. I've checked my system resources, with HoI2 running I still have half of my ram and CPU resources free. The real interesting thing is, after a fresh reboot, if I open just about anything before going straight into HoI2, I run into problems (even if I open a program and then close it before booting up HoI2).

Same thing to you Overseer, The sticky threads are there for a reason.
And you could see I just told the last person that posted here the same thing so I really don't know what you were thinking.

Sorry, somehow missed the not posting about the same problem, although if it happens on a variety of systems, I think that's good input for a support team.

As an add-on though: I pretty much narrowed down the problem to being X-Fire, so if anyone uses it and is having the problem, try closing not running x-fire whenever you plan to play HoI2.

Which is the advice I gave in post number 5. ;)

True , but how many people actually do that, especially when their computers are used for countless other things (communication and such). Especially when it's something like X-Fire that is meant to run while games are running, it must have been something in a recent update of it anyway, because it never had problems before.

I can't really be held responcible if people do not follow the advice I give. ;) :)
