it is probably because most of them are 50mb. but I thought I once saw a program to lower the size of the save files.

any suggestions? waiting 5 minutes to resign from a game. just to wait another 5 to load it is insane.

I experience these delays as well. To speed the process I kill the game from the taskbar/task manager instead of resigning.

Yeah, I get the slowness as well. Before a game, I just take that time to go get a drink or find my diadem or something.

yeah but let's say I save before I go to war, I mess something up. so I resign. which takes 5 minutes. then another 5 minutes for it to load.

just saying I thought I saw a program which lowers the size of saves.

I believe there was one like that in the EU3 User Mods forum, not sure if anyone made a Rome one. Post there to find out.

5 minutes to load is not too bad, we've have some folks take 30 minutes! The core issue is usually Vista, video river, or slow video card.

Please run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt here (first delete everything after the Sound Devices section so it will fit). Also post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that if you use Vista or Win7 and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista to a non-system directory, like c:\users\[name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\. You may have to search your C: drive for them.

I added the files I believe you want.

also if you don't mind.. my game has been crashing recently with the Lofmans mod. I have been playing it maybe 50 years or so. so not extremely long. any suggestions?

We don't support mods here at all, you'd need to contact its author.

Actually your config looks basically OK. There is a newer video driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_196.21_whql.html which is worth trying, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't help this issue.

Try these, in order:
1/ rename the Rome /Movies/ directory to anything else
2/ edit settings.txt and change renderTrees=no
3/ delete the files only in the Rome /map/cache/ directory; next time it runs it will be slower as it re-creates the cache, after that it should be faster again

thank you very much, I downloaded the driver. I changed the settings. but I cannot do the other two.

can't find the movies folder.

and I can't select more than one file at a time. my computer doesn't allow me to go into search so I must do everything through task manager / new task.

something like my explorer.exe not working.

I have the same issue. I play vanilla with 2.31 beta patch.
If I start the game and load a saved game, it just takes a few seconds to load. If I then resign the first time, again just a few seconds.
Loading the same file again will then take much longer. And resigning afterwards also.
The more I resign and load, the longer I have to wait at both resign and load.

If I resign more than once, it is faster to quit the game instead of resigning and restart the game completely.

I have seen the exact same behavior lambdf is seeing. It's not the video driver. If it were, starting the game would be just as slow and it's not. It's better just to quit and restart than attempt to resign and re-load.
