Why is this relevant to HoI? I can't play HoI and EU2 as long as I have this problem!

Yesterday, out of the blue, a problem occured with my computer....Just after HoI crashed, so it might be related. Since then, everytime my computer display changes resolution (whether its from the control panel, or automatically like HoI and EU2 do) instead of waiting the standard half-second, It now takes 30 seconds!

Needless to say, it makes playing games a real chore....anybody has ever seen this? Really, I am at a loss to explain all this..I've got a P4, GeForce3 card, a new 19 inch screen....nothings really old in my computer, and all the drivers are checked as being the latest...

Anybody can point me in any reasonable direction?

I'm sure this will soon be moved to the Support forum where the experts reside :D but until then try reinstalling your gfx drivers. To be honest I've only ever seen that problem with dodgy monitors though...

Try the suggestion here and get back to me if it does not work.

It's virtually guaranteed to be a driver issue...

What OS are you using? (WinXP/2k/9x)

When you installed the 41.09 driver did you uninstall your existing driver first? If not and there's a corrupt file somewhere in there, it might not have corrected it. You'll need to completely uninstall your current driver and only then should you apply the new one. You may find it easiest to use the Detonator Destroyer utility to remove the driver: http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/

Grrr...

Just realized something...

Yesterday I upgraded both my driver (without uninstalling, but since then I did uninstall and reinstall)....and Directx9.0...

Since then I've had two choices:
1) Have the latest driver, no problems except that changing resolution is very long, and since al-tabing from HoI to the desktop changes the resolution it's a real pain...

2) Go back to the 31.00 detonator drivers, where there are no issues with delay, but sometimes the screen gets garbled (the dektop icons have some of their pixels offset to the right....and it freezes)

Two really bad choices IMO....

I've got a PIV, 512MB of Ram, MSI GeForce3 TI-200 card, a Soundblaster live! and plenty of disk space.

Can you try some in between those two and see if you can find a better compromise.

Edit: Also make sure to have your AVI folder renamed to AVI_old ?

I installed direct x 9 about a week ago and loads of my games just started having problems -the screen started flickering and breaking up etc.

It turns out that a lot of people are having problems since they installed direct x 9 so your problem is probably there. I uninstalled the offending programme yesterday and havn't had a single problem since.

I have Windows XP & GEforce 2.

There is a warning / Info gathering thread at the top of the forum for DirectX 9 issues, it may be worth a look.
