Hi,

I'd like to suggest this one: what about modifying the weather map so it can display at the same time the actual terrain type? I find it very annoying, particularly when carrying forward a campaign, to switch every few hours between geographical and weather mode to see if somewhere is raining, or even if the ground is frozen or muddy. Put simply, it would be enough to add weather symbols, as well as ground conditions, in the geographical map.
What do you think?

BTW, congratulations on the fantastic work you're doing!

Mhh.. that is a great idea.. will have to look on how to make that visible.
Another great GUI idea here boyz ;)

Anyone fresh for a photoshop mockup on how it could look?

Didn't we look at this ages ago, but it never flew? Whatever - if it's possible it would be a definite coup de main!

Ok so this is my suggestion. I hope the picture is self-explatonary. The trick I did is adding weather pictures on top of terrain map. This includes standart clouds (storm, snowing, blizard, raining) and under it adding a second symbol representing weather-related terrain change (frozen, muddy, clear). I might have missed some conditions but I hope you get the idea.

This would be an awesome feature, really one of the top and most wanted for ages.

Indeed would be great. As once one is at war I tend to either be in terrain mode or weather mode, it would be nice that there would be no need to switch between them.

I cant really remember...
But it seems it is possible nontheless ;)

After thinking about it a great deal, i came forth with this current weather map:

How does that look?

Absolutely great! That is a feature I always wanted - it puts a much stronger emphasis on weather and terrain.
Being a long Hoi2 player I have forgotten that I simply know what terrain lies underneath each province (at least, in Europe and the western part of the SU) so I usually play with the weather map "on".
This mapmode would really fit me!

That looks very nice! Just one question - why aren't you letting the AI handle your trade? ;)

Oh - and what does 'frozen' look like?

mhh? was jast a test run without any gameplay value.. just wanted to see what muddy / frozen looked like.
And i am still working on frozen..

making the province light up too little makes it hard to distiguish between forests and marshes..
making the province light up too much just makes it harder to read province names and also looks kinda crappy...

So no conclusion on that yet... working on it though..
2 options as i see it right now:
1) Remove province geography in that case and let it remain as white...
2) Make a new sprite that shows its frozen, and place it on the province..

I have no skill on 2) so tonight i will propably implement 1) unless someone gives me a better idea...

I think option 1 will do it.
There is almost never a chance that you fight in a frozen province, because the penaltys are very high. I think it does not matter that often if the frozen province is forest or marsh or something else.

*Sigh* It was a joke giving you the opening to point out that those 'notifiers' are not necessarily just for trade any more... But never mind. :D

Is it possible to get a "paint spray" effect? A paint spraycan effect of white would be cool (groan...).

THIS is exactly what I had in mind, too (about ground conditions)!

The same could be done for mud (brown spraycan effect).

Great idea, Balesir :)

the new weather/terrain map looks very promising. However, an idea concerning weather - as of now, weather (locally) is pretty easy to predict. However, it would be nice if there would be some slightely greater uncertainty about it - even now weather forcast can be slightely, locally wrong - during WW2 it definitely was less reliable.
