George Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" Scenario

George RR Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" Mod - Ver. 1.02

By Corvuz Crovax

MOD Forum: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...981#post3107981

This is a mod based on George RR Martin's book series "A song of Ice and Fire". Creating the mod I have relied primarily on the books and using www.westeros.org which is the ultimate site for "A song of Ice and Fire" related material. Lastly everything related to "A song of Ice and Fire" is of course copyrighted by George RR Martin himself. I hope you will have as much fun playing the mod as i have had creating it.

INSTALLATION:
1. Make sure you have patch 1.04a with or without the latest beta patch installed
2. Make a copy of your CK directory
3. Download and unrar the folders into the copied directory
4. Make sure that the files have been put in the right folder (you can always compare to your normal CK installation)
5. Play

What the mod as of now does include:

Two Scenarios: "A Game of Thrones" and "A Clash of Kings" (A Game of Thrones does not work at the moment)

100+ Provinces based on original CK provinces

600+ new characters

200+ new dynasties

A somewhat simple map of Westeros

New simple CoA's

Correct province income

Correct province terrain

Correct province improvements

Correct province advances

Correct claims

Correct wars in "A Clash of Kings"

About 300 new events

New Traits: Knight, Prisoner and Septon

Maesters have replaced Chaplains and there are over 40 events relating just to maesters

revised original CK events

5 Unique Religions (The Seven, The Old Gods, The Drowned God, R'hollor, The Others)

8 Unique Cultures (Andal, Dornish, Crannog, Ironborn, Northern, Wildling, Mountain Clan, The Others)

New titles with correct province requirements

There are probably lot's of things still missing. If you want to have anything changed or added just post on the forum thread

PROBLEMS:
Solving religion problem (Ironborn and R'hollor not being able to give out titles)
Implementing creatures like daenerys' dragons, the starks' wolves and the giants and the others
Implementing Magic
The Game has a tendency to CTD, this is probably due to bugs that I haven't found yet. So if you observe that the game crashes everytime you do a certain thing please let me know so that I can correct it.
I think that some of the CTD's are caused by entering certain of the sea provinces but I have yet to figure ou which ones. Also some crashes might be due to events or the fact that there isn't any province spread file.
My advice is to use yearly autosave and saving manually often. The CTD'ing is worst the first few years so once you get past these the game gets more stable.
Sometimes it doesn't CTD at all (I have run handsoff games that lastet 40+ years without any CTD's)

Improvement:
To make the game better it is vital that you people try it and report bugs, mistakes and balancing problems to that I can fix these
If you have any ideas for things that you would like to see in the game please post them in the thread. This can be literally anything: new characters, traits, provinces, advances, events etc or modifications of existent ones. Don't worry about coding I can do that if you don't know how to do it. ,

My Thanks:
First of all to Renown, he has given me great ideas many of which will be implemented in future versions and he was also the one who got permission from amok to use his pictures for the mod.
Secondly to Amok who has allowed the use of his art for the mod. All the new pictures are his and is of course copyrighted. Most of the event pictures are cropped and resized and doesn't look as good as his original art. For more of his art visit his website: http://amoka.net/eng/gal
The map has been made using "Terrain Map Tool" by Rune Berge - great tool!
The mod includes numerous of corrections and ideas reported by people in the forum thread - Keep them coming ;-D

HAVE FUN

Version History

Changes in 1.02:
The game is now more stable. It still crashes especially during the first years or during wars. I think it might be a problem with either the wars or my new events. You can always try to disable these the first few years and switch them back on later. Or you could try to switch of each event group in the events.txt and see which ones that create problems. But it should be more playable than before. Just remember to save often and to use yearly autosave.
Fixed a lot of bugs of many kinds
Redid events that didn't function they should
Added Amok's graphics
Scripted a couple of new events

Changes in 1.01:
Added a large number of characters to flesh out the main houses
Renamed some of the court positions
Added 3 new traits: Knight, Septons and Prisoner
Added a large number of new events (nearly 100 new ones!) most related to the new traits
Fixed an age bug for an old Lannister
Fixed the CoA for Storm's End

Changes in 1.0:
Huge amount of characters added
Scripted a huge amount of events
Redid the map to show terrain and borders
Added 9 new provinces
Redid the dynasties and titles
Added a new scenario
And lots of other things too numerous to mention

Changes in 0.83:

I recommend Photobucket .

How do you solve the inability to change province borders?

Ahh thank you. Ok here is one:
d72o

Looks nice :). Though I'd make the Night's Watch a republic, or else it will have a dynastic succesion... Elective law might suffice, though.

What's the disconnected realm in the east? Stannis' Islands (what were their names again :( ;) ?)?

As you can see on screenshot number 2 I simply use some of the original provinces as my new province's. I don't think we will be able to crack the tbl format any time soon (I know of the tbl cracking project but even if it could be done it would take very looooong time to do so). Using the original provinces gives some weird geography but generally it works fine. The unused provinces are simply converted to sea.

Hmmm, might work.

Just a few suggestions:

Rather than makign the Seven Kingdoms one kingdom I'd either make all the other kingdoms claimable but unclaimed (ala Bulgaria in vanilla CK... So you can claim "King of the Reach" with enough prestige and such) Or give the current King of the Seven Kingdoms all seven titles (King of the North, the Reach, The Westerlands, The Stormlands, The Iron Islands, King of Mountain and Vale and Prince of Dorne, although Dorne is a bit of an issue there...)

I suggest that you bring this mod the the attention of the people at the A Song of Ice and Fire Ezboard if you haven't already. These people know more about ASOAIF than well, anyone else except Martin is my guess :D

I'll play it if you ever get it done. Promise!

I agree with Arilou. Kingdom of Westeros should be just King's Landing and the surrounding areas...

There are plenty of King and Duke titles in the game let me see:
Beyond the wall held by Mance
Nights Watch held by Jeor
Ironthrone held by Joffrey (Consists only of kingslanding)
The North held by Robb
The Trident held by Robb
The Westerlands held by Joffrey
The Reach held by Renly
Dorne held by Renly
The Stormland held by Renly
Dragonstone held by Stannis
The Iron Islands held by Balon
The Vale helt by Joffrey (this title is only formal as the vale isn't part of his realm)

Mace Tyrell is duke of Highgarden
Doran Martell is duke of Dorne
Hoster Tully is duke of Riverrun
Lysa Tully is duke of the Vale (although Joffrey has the king title Lysa is independant)
(The rest of the Ducal titles are being held by different Kings)
Since many of the dukes control much of the land needed for certain king titles they are able to usurp the titles from their current owners although that would mean going to war to actually claim them)

And yes it does work I have tested it playing Robb Stark for 12 years. Killing of the Iron Islands in peace since the lannister realm was dissolving in internal wars. Joffrey had given Lannisport as a province to Tyrion, but since we all know the that those two aren't the best friends Tyrion declared independance and a prolonged civil war followed leaving the westerlands in total chaos. In the mean while the Nights Watch succeded in rooting out Mance Rayder before he could gather his army. Stannis declared war on Renly and a huge fight followed where at first he took Storms End but he only held it for 15 days or such before he was utterly slaughtered and his Islands taken. So yes It does work (and is quite fun) although a lot of work needs to be done making it more correct, detailed and balanced.

I'd make the setup a bit different... I'd make the Riverlands/Trident (whatever you chose to call it) a duchy rather than a Kingdom (it was not one of the Seven Kingdoms as it was held by Harren the Black at the time of Aegon's invasion) held by Edmure (or Hoster), but in Robb's "realm" (Robb would be Duke of Winterfell and King of the North) Most of the other Kingdoms I'd have either be un-held by anyone or held by Joffrey (but give Renly, Stannis, Lysa et. al. claims on them) I'd make most of the major houses Dukes with the possibility of claiming kingships for themselves... I'd rather keep the Seven Kingdoms united at startup (with the possible exception of the North) but have the various dukes have very bad relations with the King (with the exception of Tywin of course) The only ones I'd make independent would be the Night's Watch and the Wildlings, possibly Robb as well (depending on the exact date)

Well, in an ideal world, there'd be multiple scenarios - say, one immediately after Robert Baratheon's death, one after Robb crowns himself King of the North, and one after the Battle at Blackwater Rush.

I'd love to help, though I'm by no means a Song of Ice and Fire-expert  :( ;) .

I think the Trident can very well be a Kingdom, if only in CK terms. Perhaps if the Evil-God-of-Fire wouldn't be, the Starks could have ended up just with that...

That looks really nice actually!

If you've got host space, you could use RuneB's program to remove all possible not used drawings from the map.

I think I'm going to buy this book now ;D

I happen to be rereading the trilogy right now (about half way through "Clash of Kings"). And I just bought the compilation with the novella "Sworn Sword" (his sequel to "Hedge Knight"), very eagerly waiting delivery..

Anyways, this looks very cool. :)

Though I've one nitpick - Jon Snow was Mormont's steward, so shouldn't his stewardship be higher than 6?

Yeah it will actually be quite easy to make more than one scenario because most of the dynasties and characters are the same in them. But for the alpha I'm focusing on the one I described starting at the beginning of "A clash of Kings".
I can see your points regarding the titles but I think some of the king titles should be in and some need to be in for the purpose of having duke vasals.
Robb will be the king of the north (I know that in the books he was declared king only after he had freed Riverun IIRC but it will not be totally incorrect for him to be so before as nobody else but the Starks has any thing to say in the north) He will also have Hoster Tully as a vasal in the beginning. If he hadn't he would never get him as a vasal given how hard it is to vasallize somone peacefully in CK 1.03b. But I will make king of the trident unclaimed!
Renly needs to be a king so that he can have highgarden and sunspear as vasals but I will make him only king of the Stormlands then (Making king of the reach and dorne two unclaimed titles). I actually had planned to have joffrey being duke and king of the westerlands but I will him only king giving the ducal title to tywin as that makes more sense. Stannis and Renly declared themselves Kings pretty early so I think It's ok for them to be so. But I will remove some of their titles. There will be more than the 7 king titles as some of he characters in the end of the books (the character appendix) are declared kings of other areas than the original 7. So now the titles will be
Robb: King of the north, Duke of winterfell
Hoster: Duke of Riverrun
Tywin: Duke of Casterly Rock
Lysa: Duke of the Vale
Joffrey: King of the Iron Throne, Duke of Kings Landing
Stannis: King of the Narrow Sea, Duke of Dragonstone
Renly: King of the Stormlands, Duke of Storms End
Mace: Duke of Highgarden
Martell: Duke of Sunspear
Balon: Duke of Pyke
Mance: King beyond the Wall, Duke of the Skirling Pass???
Jeor: King of the Nights Watch (renamed to "Commander of")

Unclaimed titles:
King of the Vale
King of Dorne
King of the Reach
King of the Iron Islands
King of the Trident

I'd make Edmure Duke of Riverrun. Hoster may have still technically been, but giving him stats higher than 0-2 would not be right, but his illness certainly didn't cripple Riverrun. Not that Edmure is the best Lord since the dawn of time...
